Hi guys, I was looking at the rules for flyers for different armies and when I came through these, I actually got quite amazed.

For the first one, 2 assault cannons and 2 heavy bolters means 12 S6 and 6S5 shots, add to that the other weapon and you are firing a whole lot of shots. While damage is not high on these, the -1 rend and the amount of shots means that one of these is going to chew through i fantry and seriously damage other light/medium vehicles.

Compared to 4 shots of crimson hunters which are antitank or helldrakes (CSM only get one flyer to SM 3) and stormhawk being cheaper and almos as resilient, I think this is a bargain.

Is there something I'm missing or am I totally spot on?

They do get -1 to hit when moving and shooting heavy weapons.

So do eldar or any other faction. And still cost more and not shoot as much

They also get +1 to hit vs. their preferred targets (flyers for the Hawk, ground for the Talon) so even with the -1 for heavy weapons, they shoot as normal.

And the Talon can hover, stand still, and get that +1 and shoot w/o the penalty, so hits on a 2+ assuming it’s undamaged.

I’ll agree to that.

Need to crunch points to see how efficient they end up being. Harder to do that at a glance these days. But they seem reasonably solid.

For the points the Storm Talon does look compelling as an anti heavy infantry and light vehicle/monster unit. There could very well be better options in terms of damage output (Sternguard in an Assault Cannon Razorback, perhaps?) but they are generally costly and lose the benefits of being a flyer.

The Stormhawk looks as deadly as ever as an anti flyer unit. Certainly better than Flakk Missiles or other ground to air weapons the SM have access to. At least in my opinion.

So the stormtalon is 195 points for 2x Lascannosn and a Twin Assault Cannon. I'd rather take a twLas/2xLas Predator for 205.
The stormtalon with 2x HB and TWAC is only 165, but I still don't know if that platform is worth it. For 35 points more you can have 2x TWAC Razorbacks. -The don't get the +1 to hit though.

With assault being so deadly now, it's nice to have a dakka platform that can only be assaulted by units with FLY; and then the stormhawk is normally shooting those targets on a 2+ so, yeah. They are nice.
