Pieced together a general list, wanted to see what y'all thought of it before I go buying, building, and painting it. Without further ado:
HQ: Bjorn with a helfrost cannon 252pts
Bjorn is a tough customer in melee with Trueclaw, and the helfrost cannon makes for a decent punch. He also brings a CP and army aura, which are handy.
HQ: Rune priest with runic axe and runic armor 91pts
Needed a second HQ for the battalion detachment and some psychic defense is handy to have on hand.
T: Grey Hunters x10+WGPL with 2x plasmagun, 1 combi-plasma 195pts
T: Grey Hunters x10+WGPL with 2x plasmagun, 1 combi-plasma 195pts
Two max size squads of troops with anti MEQ weaponry. Skipped the plasma pistols to save points, but might end up going back and dumping the rune priest's gear to afford max plasma here. They'll hitch a ride on my flyers.
T: Grey Hunters x5+WPL with plasmagun, plasma pistol, combi-plasma 120pts
Dedicated Transport Razorback with twin lascannon 115pts
Smaller plasma squad to fit in a laserback and fill out the battalion.
FA: Thunderwolf Cavalry x5 with power axes and storm shields all around 325pts
My primary melee threat. 3+ Inv saves make them quite resilient and their largish squad size should let them pack a solid punch in combat.
Flyer: Stormwolf with 2x twin multimelta 353pts
Flyer: Stormwolf with 2x twin multimelta 353pts
A pair of flying land raiders. T7 with 14 wounds each, coupled with supersonic flight these guys should be tough enough to zip up into the enemy lines, dump their eight Str8+ shots, disgorge my Grey Hunters, then fly away to harass.
Things I'm concerned about:
Low model count. This is a product of 8th ed point pricing, I'm sure, but it just feels odd to have a 2k point army with 38 models.
The resilience of the Stormwolf. Am I overselling how tanky these are? With only 4 vehicles and five cavalry models deployed, these aircraft could be taking quite a bit of punishment if I don't get 1st turn.
Dealing with high model count armies. Guard gunline or Tyranid swarms or orks or T'au gunlines make me worry that I just won't be able to handle them as I've gone heavily toward Str 8+ guns that have a lower number of shots. I'm not sure I have enough basic line troopers to handle these kinds of armies.
Please provide any constructive feedback or ideas. I'm all ears.
