I'm a complete noob at this hobby, and am getting my local game club helping me paint my models. I settled on a scheme but before I show up I want to know what paints and washes I need:

Don't know the names of the current range of paints, but I recommend just getting the base coats on there first and then washing the whole thing in one dark wash at once. Don't have to worry about spilling any ink somewhere it shouldn't go, plus it will speed things up while providing a dark recess to the red and making the metal slightly grimy. Then slap some lighter highlights on the folds of the cloaks and edges of the metal and your'e just about done with a TT quality mini or squad if you do it in a batch.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

This sounds the closest to me, A wash of nuln oil though would make it really moody and dark, I guess that's the look you're going for...

On a side note, I am developing a range of paints that can be used as Base, layer, edge and drybrushing stright out of a bottle with shades 95-99% close to the GW range with a similar opacity and sheen. You can follow the thread here - Alternative Paint Range equal to Citadel Colours

Question for the other guys/gals on this thread: Is Nuln Oil more or less equivalent to Badab Black? If so, @Anauteus you should just slather those mammajammas in that wash and watch the magic unfold.

I'd recommend using the gloss nuln oil, then matt varnish after, as it doesn't darken the overall colour as much.
