I've gotten my hands on some old Rogue Trader plastic models and I'm looking to put together a small throwback Crimson Fists army with them, possibly expanding them later on. How does this look for starters?

I should also note that my opponent will primarily be playing Orks, which makes the Crimson Fists theme all the more fitting!

HQ

Chaplain – 72 Points
Bolt Pistol and Crozius Arcanum

Troops

Tactical Squad – 92 Points
4 Marines with Bolters
1 Marine with Heavy Bolter
1 Sergeant with Bolter and Power Sword

Tactical Squad – 107 Points
4 Marines with Bolters
1 Marine with Flamer
1 Sergeant with Bolt Pistol and Power Fist

Tactical Squad – 107 Points
4 Marines with Bolters
1 Marine with Flamer
1 Sergeant with Bolt Pistol and Power Fist

Heavy Support

Devastator Squad – 117 Points
2 Marines with Bolters
2 Marines with Missile Launchers
1 Sergeant with Bolter

Total: 495 Points

I'm still getting a hang of the new rules, but this should be Battle-Forged with the Patrol detachment unless I'm missing something? I have enough pieces to only assemble 2 missile launchers maximum, but the rest is fairly flexible. Being old Rogue Trader plastics I'm pretty limited in that I will only have flamers, missile launchers, and power fists unless I can scrounge up some more uniquely equipped figures from eBay. Fortunately it sounds like flamers and missile launchers are looking to be pretty useful this edition, so I may be in luck. I don't know about power fists however, they may just eat up points that could be spent on more marines instead, but I thought they might be fitting for a Crimson Fists army.

You could maybe drop one of the tactical squads in favor of a dreadnought for some variability and CC punch, but it looks good. will probably struggle against armor.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

Not a bad idea, I am a big fan of Dreadnoughts! I would probably use the current line of models though, the Rogue Trader era ones look a bit... weird lol.

I have to pay for the Assault Cannon and Dreadnought Combat Weapon correct? As well as the Stormbolter?

That would put it up to about 133 if I'm adding correctly. Might be hard to squeeze it in to my list unless I drop a Tac squad and a Sergeant's power fist.

To my knowledge, yes, that's how the points would be added up. Might be worth it though to have something a little tougher than power armor to anchor the line.

That sounds good to me. This new list puts me in at 501 points, but in the casual environment I play in I don't think anyone would care.

I like that it adds a little more variety too, instead of there being only marines I can have something else to paint, and as you said something a bit tougher to stand alongside the rest of the army.

I don't think a Dread is the answer, I think you need manoeuvrability. Rather go for some assault marines that you can drop in and give your chaplain a jump pack to go in with them...
