I haven't decided whether to be practical and just pick one and go with it
OR
to keep both forces from the starter.

Curious which army dakka-ites will be trading off (assuming you will get the starter box AND that you want to trade).

Keep them both.
Wait and see how both factions develop in the near future.

gonna keep em both for now, but proably just hang onto the death guard. as I'm not much of a nurgle person. although I've been long wanting to learn how to do some of the gorgous plague stuff I see from time to time so might poke at it in an attempt to teach myself how to

I am a nurse, so I get enough ick factor in my daily life that Death Guard don't appeal to me. One guy in our gaming group is buying the DG off of people, so I sold mine off to him. The Primaris Marines look pretty nice, so I kept them.

Neither. I'm keeping them both.

As a starter, this box might be a nice way to introduce the new rules gradually to people who have been out of the game for some time, or who are just starting. Assuming the armies are (kind of) balanced with each other.
Besides that, my biggest army is Nurgle CSM. And I have this odd quirk. With each new edition I started a new army, even if only a small token force of some odd 1000 or 1500 points. This is a nice way to start a new Ultramarines Primaris force. Just for fun and kicks. With Guilliman Roboute leading them.

Keeping Primaris, offing Death Guard. One of my friends collects Chaos, he's getting them as a belated birthday gift.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

I'd keep maybe one set of death guard. The models themselves don't lend well to duplicates, while the Primaris marines are more generic and thus more desirable in multiples.

I have a Death Guard army, but I don't necessarily need any new pieces. I had so many Plague Marines at one point, I gave away half and kept 3 units of 7 for myself.

I also have a Loyalist Marine army and I'm not really blown away by new Marines or True Scale hype, noe do they fit my mostly Biker army.

I'm in luck that a friend is giving me the DG half, so I can have really cool looking plague Marines right next to my old metal sub standard looking ones now. And since I'm a conversion addict, those special characters can be used in a new project for sure.

The big release in really waiting for is Mortarion though. For that, I'm ready to shell out some coin. I've only been buying books and paint lately.

I'll be trading off the Primaris; those Death Guard look like too much fun to paint.

I originally was gonna trade the Death Guard, but now I might keep them and painting them up all rusty and gross.

But I love the Primaris Marines. The Inceptors look dope.

Definitely keeping the DG half. I already have a SM army, all I want from the primaris marines are specialist weaponry, not more line infantry. Probably going to get a box of hellblasters down the line and paint them up as minotaur backup for my inquisitor, but that's it.

Hopefully I'll have enough moolah here soon to buy a starter box for myself and I'll most likely keep both armies to a)add some new shiny models to my already large death Guard army, and also start a small primaris force with "allied in" grey knights from what I was starting as my "secondary" army already during 7th but never completed enough of to actually field and play in 7th. Hopefully grey knights didn't get nerfed in 8th and a primaris force with an inquisition strike force ally is actually pretty strong.

Very clever idea.

Saw a bunch of 2nd hand necrons going really cheap at FGS about an hour from here. Seriously considering going 'cron now.

Keeping both, this time they included two armies I actually like. Been waiting forever for 40k nurgle to finally get some stuff. WHF and AoS nurgle has had some great plastic models but 40k nurgle has been lagging behind for a long time.

Also I intend to teach and learn the game with people who typically play X wing and Blood Bowl. So having two armies out of the box to play with and learn is good. I don't like having too many duplicate sculpts though so that's it for me until these 2 armies get multipart kits. I also might start necrons since they seem pretty affordable compared to some other updated armies.

Feth those Primaris abominations I'll stick with the sons of Mortarion as I'm been a die hard Deathguard fan since the day I started so getting plastic models is amazing I'll be fobbing the Numarines off to whoever is wanting them for some extra cash

Since the books are literally the same between the separate and Starter Set, what do you suppose the odds of stores preordering the 20+ kits, filling the customer preorders for Dark Imperium, opening the boxes and taking the rulebook out to fill preorders for just the rulebook, then selling the rest of the models on eBay for a premium?

Pestilent Plague Marine with Blight Grenade

Ive preordered two sets and an extra Bloat drone and I'm keeping it all, despite being a Death Guard player

The extra book I will probably sell on

the Primaris marines will be converted/corrupted. They've said the heads and shoulders are compatible with existing kits so wven if they're not seperate, they can be swapped out. I have a lot of Mk3 kits (How cool will Primaris Breachers with Mk3 heads and shoulders be?)

the Death Guard themselves will be chopped up for parts - I don't like the stock versions much, they're too "busy", so they'll be chopped & changed with the DV Chosen, FW Death Guard kits and Mk3 plastics to spread the parts over several models

the Bloat Drones will be individually converted and mounted on flying bases (I don't like the idea of daemon engines being identical). they'll go alongside my three Greater Blight Drones

Poxwalkers will be conversion fodder, there are very few of them that I actually like, but some parts like the bionic arm and the lab coat guy can be reused elsewhere

the two Inceptor squads will donate their jump packs to my 30K Destroyers.

the Hellblaster Plasma Incinerators will get redistributed to my Plague Marine squads, or make up some Plague Havocs in the hope those actually exist again when the codex drops

the Intercessor squads and their Bolt Rifles will be corrupted to serve Nurgle, possibly as Chosen, probably with some of the Plague Marine parts.

the Lord of Contagion is getting a head and weapon swap, probably becoming either a Terminator Lord or Terminator Champion

Anyway I'm rambling, you get the idea. everything has its place

when they said the heads and shoulders are compatable I suspect they where talking the complete kits, the ones in the boxed set are less complicated push to fit ones. I would take a good look at the videos of the unboxing of the starter sets before making any ambitious plans like that.
