I'm wondering if all detachments and detachment combinations will be allowed by ITC and the GT circuit ? And will it be 2 or 3 detachments allowed?

Examples:

Super-Heavy | Supreme Command | Patrol

Supreme Command | Supreme Command |Supreme Command

Fortification Network | Fortification Network | Super-Heavy

Airwing Detachment | Supreme Command | Super-Heavy Detachment

Lord of War Detachment | Lord of War Detachment | Supreme Command

Etc.

P.S. I'm not arguing any of the above are going to do well or are competitive in any way, I just want to know.

I suppose we'll have to wait for 8th edition to officially release for the time being.

Game isn't even technically out at this point, give it a month or two. Then we can get an idea of what will be allowed.

Well, the detachments have been spoiled for a time, and ITC does have forums you can check up on and communicate with them through.

Some armies will work better with more Detachments, and almost need them. After all, Necrons can use all the Royal Courts they can fit in, and it looks like Imperial Guard have lost their Platoons.

Matched play rules limit you to 3 detachments, limiting what types of detachments you could bring would be idiotic outside of MAYBE stopping guard players from bringing 3 brigades or w/e.

And reece and franky have said they plan to stick as close to the book as possible until enough games have been played to get good community feedback.

Matched play has "suggestions" on detachment limits for tournaments. If you aren't in a tournament take as many detachments as you want, there isn't a limit.

Technically true, however considering matched play is meant to be a more competitive style and players who play competitively tend to go to tournaments, the majority of matched play games will be 3 detachments simply because that constraint lends itself to practicing for tournaments.

That said there will assuredly be some events with unlimited detachments and people who just like to play that way so a percentage of games (probably small but not insignificant) will be unlimited.

ITC and GT organizers have decided things based on much less information - just take a look.

I want to start building competitive lists, but it's hard if I don't know all the limitations to expect.
