I may have missed it, but I haven't seen anything regarding how vehicles fire weapons now. I know flyers have facing since they still require keeping track of 90 degree arcs for turning and movement, but how do other vehicles handle shooting? Can a monolith, which has a weapon on each of its 4 corners, fire all 4 at a single unit that is on one side like any non-vehicle model would or do weapons on vehicles still fire from the weapon itself?
Sorry if this was discussed somewhere and i missed it.

Vehicles shoot like any other model: any direction they want with anything they want. If you can draw LOS from the hull you can see it and that's all it takes to shoot. Automatically Appended Next Post: And yes, that applies to fliers too, despite their facing rule involving turns.

I've seen it played that way on some online battle reports but where in the book is the rule you fire from any point on the hull of a model. Was looking for it after my first game lastnight.

Basically read the rules as if you have never played WH40K before. Read how it says to determine LOS for shooting.

From the shooting rules: "In order to target an enemy unit, a model from that unit must be within the range of the weapon being used and be visible to the shooting model. If unsure, stoop down and get a look from behind the shooting model to see if any part of the target is visible."
So does this mean that flyers (or other units) can't shoot backwards? They can only shoot on units in the forward arc? It's not clear to me.

It is a bit bizarre that a fire raptor could shoot all it's guns at the same target.
The Warlord titan has lascannoms that can only shoot 'behind' which is the only exception I've seen

It is designed to make it simple and (more importantly) reduce the amount of arguments players have over what model can see what and what is in which "arc" I am very thankfully for this as it will speed up the game (leaving room for more games) If you must have an "in-universe" reason why a Flyer can shoot "backwards", try to think out what is really happening. If the target is behind the flyer, said flyer likely flew over that target. It probably shot at that target on the way, we just resolve it after because of the way the turn sequence demands it in game: move, then shoot. Flyers are doing both at the same time, but it would be cumbersome to add rules to represent that. Ergo, 360 LoS is the best for everything. -

Basically until we get a faq this is how los works for vehicles:

Even if I agreed with you, which I don't. When this new "ease of play" butts up against los and wound application, it gets silly really fast. All you need to kill an entire unit, whether 1 model or 50 models, is have a single model in range and los. I could try and enjoy the added speed of losing depth if it wasn't so detrimental to just about all movement incentive. For a game full of granularity over the hard thresholds of prior editions, that's still a hell of a threshold. For all the sins of 7th it did one thing better than other editions, it tied what can die to what is in the los of the firer.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did. |
