Hey guys,

Ok, so I've managed to get some test games over 2 days. (Yay for holidays)

With some model reps, I've managed to test quite a few models in the Chaos book in a game. 8 games total.

My finds so far,

Chaos Daemons Greater Daemons die too fast and too easy. (Mainly Bloodthirsters)
If you don't get first turn, guess what the first target of the big guns is... then he moves slow and gets shot more.
Only solution is play on a scenery dense board. :( (That I found anyway).

I've more or less replaced my Daemons with Chaos Marines now. Or atleast, so far it seems that they are the stronger option.

My current list -

Chaos 2000 Pts - ?? Command Points (Work in progress)

Battalion Detachment -

HQ -

2x Daemon Prince - 360pts
MoN, Wings, Talons

Troops -
3x 10 Poxwalkers - 90pts

Flyers -
2x Helldrake - 430pts
Baleflamer, Talons

Elite -
Noxious Blight Bringer - 73pts

This brings me to 953pts total.

Daemons cannot be shot at because of the helldrakes.
Pox walkers do not take moral checks so I can just sit them on an objective without the fear of dying to moral.
The Blight Bringer is there to make the Pox Walkers run faster.

Now I still have half an army to build and have been considering the below combinations.

Spoiler:

Airwing -

3x Helldrake - 645pts
Baleflamer, Talons

Spoiler:

Spearhead -

HQ -

Daemon Price - 180pts
MoN,Wings, Talons

Herald of Nurgle - 70pts
(There to heal my DP's)

Heavy -

4x Obliteratos(3) - 780pts

Or replace Oblits with Defiler or (Suggestions)

So, at the 1000 pts my army was strong. It was actually REALLY strong, it had a Skittari and a Tau player scratching their heads trying to think out of it.
Their only suggestion was to deepstrike something of their own within charging distance of the Daemon Price. (not smart)

So I have a fairly solid 1000pts so far.
But in the larger games it varies so much.

I don't want to bring too many D3/D6 damage weapons as those are useless against hoards.
While I also want some way of taking big gribblies out.

I'm thinking, Obliterators turn up in turn 1. XX" away from their target. They have assault weapons so have no penalty.
They are tough and 4 units of them lets me place them where I want and dominate board control early.
However, taking on hoards is an issue as they are only Assault 2.

Im really stuck! Help!

Hello,

So I just recently played my first game with a pretty similar list (without the helldrakes) and I brought spawn and helbrutes in addition to some plasma terminators.

I found that pox walkers heald objectives very well. And the Daemon princes were fantastic. But I also think spawn have gotten better in a strange way. At first look I thought spawn had been nerfed but there random abilities are actually significantly better than they used to be. During one turn I had a unit of 5 spawn pump out 34 attacks (each doing 2 damage). I am going to continue to use them for middle objective holders.

However I am not super convinced that helbrutes are a good addition. A helbrute with a twin lascannon and a missile launcher comes out to 147 points. They are very durable. I tried protecting them with the poxwalkers but it was tricky keeping them out of CC. And compared to some other non chaos backfield units. I dont think they are all that great.

Anyway let me know what you end up using. I am going to have to take another look at the heldrake.

Hey,

Glad to hear im not the only one with this idea.

My Helldrakes were MVP!

My Tau opponent took 2 turns to kill them firing EVERYTHING he had at them. Meaning my DP's with WarpTime were charging up the battlefield for 2 turns. So they all seen combat on full wounds.

The Helldrakes made 2 firewarrior teams do nothing for 2 turns. They were assaulted, fell back in the movement phase. They do not have the FLY keyword so could not shoot.
I didn't see any point assaulting the suits as they can fallback and shoot.

Chaos Spawn, now theres an interesting idea!
They could work as a filler unit. They are not that expensive.

On a side note, its now apparent how off the Power Point System is.

Lord of contagion, 173 pts , 9PP

Typhus , 343 pts, 9 PP.

Bloat drone , 99pts, 10PP

Helldrake, 215pts, 10PP

On a side note, I previously overlooked the Bloat Drones.
However, they are actually REALLY strong. 2D6 S6 auto-hit shots. Wounding most armies infantry on 2+ with rend.
Also, it explodes on 4+, so worth keeping it in your opponents lines for lols.

I might just take 6 of those and more Daemons Princes/Heralds!

Good to hear some success.

I make the Lord of Contagion 184, and Typhus 164.. clearly I am not understanding something.

(and bloat drone 158 with weapons and helldrake 232 with claws.. this system is hard!)

Derp,

Got my mate to check in the GW shop.

I was going on a fuzzy copy

You are 100% correct.
I'll need to find a less fuzzy copy

I'll revise my points . So I don't mislead anyone.
Thanks for the update though.

Edit 2: Drake is 215pts with Bale & Claws.
138,17,60 pts.

Bloat drones is a good idea, I will check them out as well, thanks.

So I have Typhus listed at 164 points including wargear.
