I was playing around and doing some games, lots of maths and I realised something about my Necrons: My opponents have real trouble with the choosing of targets.
Sure he can unload his 4 remaining Bolters in my 10 warriors...but most likely they will just be back at 15 man next turn anyways :-). He can shoot at that full health ghost ark...but it will regain this wound. And his LSC:..shooting at a warrior is wasted, shooting at a vehicle that will either get just 1-3 damage or ignore the LSC-shoot (I love our shields)...well in the end rockets and LSCs go into scarabs ;-).
i think you get the idea. There is one unit in my army that is "helping" my opponent here: Heavy Destroyers. Expensive, strong weapon...and perfect targets for multi damage weapons. They always die, even with 2+ armor and Orikan next to them, the opponent will unleash everything he has and they will be dead in turn 2. Why is this...well 75 points for 3 wounds and only 3 models makes the easiest target if you think about it. It takes less effort as killing 10 immortals (who are 50 points less).
I tried to avoid this by playing 5 destroyers and 1 heavy destroyer with Orikan. Well it surviced one turn and died a bit later...but also nearly 400 points "wasted" and again my heavy weapoins were gone too early.
On the other hand I had real fun with 20 warriros, 2* 10 immortals and my Doomsday Ark.
So has anyone tried spamming vehicles? Do you think it can work? They all "fly", the shooting power is quite good and the shields are so great. Of course you will need infantry for holding objectives, but you could go with only warriors and a Ghost ark here...something that is just not "worth" shooting at ;-)
I am thinking about a Catacomb Command ark (I think it is overpriced, but not if you only play vehicles..), 3 Annihilation Barks, 2 Doomsday Arcs, 1 Stalker and then what you need (I think 40 warriors, Orikan and 1 Ghost Ark would be my choice).

I have seen some vehicle spam lists that are supposedly quite good. Doomsday Arks are the sauce, the Flyers are good if a bit expensive, and ABarges are maybe a bit too squishy but put out a staggering number of shots. QS Wall Necrons are pretty legit.

I mean this is the general concept of redundancy, and why spam and mech lists in general typically work so well.
You generally want to make it as hard as possible for there to be a right thing to shoot at (by, for example, taking 6 of the same unit), and if possible, making your army resistant to getting shot at by half of the enemy's list (going all vehicle to ignore small arms fire, or all infantry to not mind losing a guy to a las cannon is the main way to do this).

Looking at what Necrons have, that appears to be how they want us to play, now.
But you're probably going to need more than one Stalker. It's a force multiplier, so your opponent will more than likely focus on it to make the rest of your army's shooting less effective.
Take two (or three!) with a couple of Doomsday Arks and you'll have your heavy hitter section covered. Fill the rest of the list with Warrior bricks and Crypteks and that will probably what "competitive" Necron lists will look like for the next while (at least until the codex comes out).

I'm having the same thoughts. Destroyers are too easy to kill.
Stalker + Doomsday Arks are quite versatile. FLY give nice counter to charging enemy.
I'm albo using one 20 warriors blob as a bait for smallarms fire which would be more dangerous to my vehicles with T6.
Cryptecs are expensive and sometimes useless.
