I'm wanting to make a detachment of Crimson Sabres to go alongside my army and I'm wondering from a fluff perspective, are there any units that they would not make use of?

I was planning to create Captain Eli's 4th company, as they broke off from Kranon prior to this, there are still some remaining loyalists. Not many mind you, there are at least 59 of them.

I remember a while back when Crimson Slaughter first came out with a supplement I tried reading into who their Primogenitors could have been, singling out the ones they couldn't have been, based on the written fluff. I excluded Dark Angels, Imperial Fists, and Ultra Marines since they were already involved in their storyline about how "offended" they were at their Father Legion or whatever and deleted all records of them.

We could probably exclude Wolves, and Salamanders due to their recruitment habits, and Blood Angels successors would have developed the Rage and Thirst.

Raven Guard is a maybe, but I wouldnt bet on it.

The only thing their codex says about their way of war pre Slaughter is drop pod assaults, and close range firefights.

I would bet on either White Scars (who love sabers by the way), or Iron Hands (who purge the weak) as their Founders. And just kinda theme it from there.

I suspect they were of BA geneseed, possibly tampered with. I suggest also they were created without any ties to existing BA/successor chapters.

Note they do have death visions and bloodlust, which I suspect maybe a manifestation of the Red Thirst and Black Rage, just without the cultural baggage of the BA. I believe that as they do not use the Blood of Sanguinius nor Sarcophagi in creation of new marines they do not have such strong psychic ties to the rest of the BA descendent chapters, explaining why their Red Thirst and Black Rage are expressed so differently (possibly along side no small amount of Tzeentchian trickery).

As I recall there was another BA descended chapter that also had a variation on its Black Rage visions, so CS having something similar is canonically possible.

I think they had worked a campaign with Blood Angels though, so them being their primoginator and then getting shunned by a differerent primoginator made me not consider them. But I'll take a look at the supplement when I'm done. Or search my post histories for the full synopsis.

Found it.

"According to the CS fluff in the new Supplement their primogenitors are a mystery due to the Chapter being offended at receiving a Censure from their Parent Legion for not showing proper Honor protocol for the DA and BA, so locked up all existence and ties of their Parents in a secret vault, and then it got blown up... So its a big mystery....

But we do know that it couldn't have been from the Blood Angels or Dark Angels, since they were the cause of the Censure in the beginning. We can pretty safely eliminate Space Wolves and Salamanders since they have no real Successors anyway.

Ultramarines are likely but extremely boring. The Ultramarines are mentioned as fighting alongside the Crimson Sabres during the Cleansing of Danor IV, where an UM Librarian noted in record their "over eagerness for acceptance" but downplays it as the chapter being proud to fight alongside "Such Imperial stalwarts as the Blood Angels and Ultramarines". This doesent discount Ultramarines, but why have them mentioned at all if all records were expunged. We know they fought alongside UM, DA, BA, Black Templars, Silver Skulls, and lastly were fired upon by a Imperial Fists Strike Cruiser on entering the Cadian Gate.

We also know that after receiving Censure for insulting the honor of BA and DA, they severed all ties to all other Space Marine chapters but strictly adhered to the Codex Astartes and the teachings of Guilliman TO THE LETTER. Another hint at Ultramarines? A little too predictable.... So which other Chapters strictly adhered to the Codex after the Heresy? Raven Guard, Iron Hands and White Scars. Also the only 3 not mentioned at all in any fluff yet.

We do know they were noted for their Fire Support teams, and their use of Drop Pod Assaults. We do know their homeworld was a feudal world, warring against Orks. We know they like Sabres.

My money is on White Scars successors. There is No mention of them anywhere in the Supplement. They seems like a good source for such a 'Savage' traitor Chapter. And it hasn't really been done to death."

I don't think the Ultramarines can be counted out entirely. Dark angels and blood angels strike me as unlikely given the conflict. but the only referance to the Ultramarines was a UM Libby noting they seemed "despirate for acceptance" this combined with their reaction to their inital censor being an extreme embracing of the codex, I'd say that this is consistant with their being ultramarines sucessors.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

yea, like ive said, after re-reading it years later, UM are possible, but I still think would have been to obvious and boring.

Not to get too off topic but how many Non UM renegades are there confirmed? Soul Drinkers. And they only half count...
