My question is: Is model strength the same
Characteristic as melee attack strength?
If I have a +1 to "unit strength" and then a melee weapon applies a x2 weapon strength modifier to determine "weapon strength", are these applying to the same characteristic?
E.g. a servitor with base 3 strength affected by invocation of machine might (+1 unit strength) and wielding a servo arm (x2). Does the servo arm attack with 7 strength or 8 strength?
I would guess 7 strength. But the fact that melee weapons can have strengths entirely independent of their models makes me question if that's correct.
I think this is a totally valid question.
RAW I think a weapon's Strength characteristic being drawn from the model's own Strength characteristic does make them two separate things, and so would break the normal order of applying a multiplication modifier before an addition modifier.
However, I'm guessing that isn't the intent of the rules (and not how most people would naturally think to play it), so its probably worth trying to get
GW to answer this via
FAQ (I'll add it to the
FAQ submission thread).
