think these guys would make decent alternate scions in a renegade guard themed force?
sorry, spoilered for size.
i was also thinking about adding these backpacks to represent grav chutes from mad robot miniatures but have no experience with them...
thoughts?

I think some of Anvil industries stuff looks pretty good for scions
personally i think those look a little cheap.
the backpack would be killer though.

Forge world sells some grave chutes that look good. You could also use FW Cadian respirators

Those backpacks looks more like Ellisian Drop troopers than for Stormtroopers/Tempestus Scions.
For alternate stormtroopers i recommend you the Warlords Eisenkern ones. Very good material, sculpts, and a very good price (even more if you buy them in a sale or a 3rd party reseller!)

Just put them some nice Chaos symbols and maybe some spikes and good to go.

well they are well priced
they would be fine for scions so long as they ultimately look different from the rest of the IG you may have.

I don't have a suggestion or opinion but would like to point out that you have inspired me to make a series of Gue'Vesa troopers and use them as Tau-sympathetic Scions.
Because the new Tau kit comes with WAY too many heads and extra weapons and Pulse carbines are theoretically close enough to hotshot lasguns to count as them.

Those trench cost guys would make sick shotgun vets, if you could convert a iron hand straken model for the extra attack after the fix bayonets order. Nasty combo rite dur

I think I like those better than the default scions. The face/mask is similar to what the scions have as well, so that shouldn't confuse people that much if you point it out.
