I'm planning to do the Death Guard that I will (hopefully) receive on Saturday in a dirty white.

Something similar to:

What would you guys recommend for this? I was considering base coating in white, washing in black and then doing some sepia wash streaks down the armour / around break points. Have you guys seen any easy methods for a real grimy coat?

So something like this?
Spoiler:

The method to get that result is:
- Start from black
- Heavily drybrush brown over the whole model
- Apply 5-6 successively lighter drybrushes of brown mixed with an increasing amount of off-white (use light grey for a cold colour, sand for a warmer one), up to a final drybrush of pure off-white
- Add some splotchy washes of brown, green, purple and red all over the armour to give it that patina of grime, and for added Nurgle, sparingly use a bit of Typhus Corrosion/Ryza Rust around joints and seams
Done!

That's actually a pretty quick method, shouldn't take more than about 15 minutes to get the armour up to the washing stage, then it's just adding those and filling out the rest of the details.

Oh, and welcome to Dakka!

That looks great, but I was hoping for something a bit cleaner.

Fair enough! The method could still work for that, simply use straight white in the initial mixes and skip some of the washes (or just use black washes for maximum contrast) to get a cleaner overall result.

Based on that picture my guess is that a black wash might be to stark. the shadows looks more greyish with a tint of purple to me.
You probably have to work with multiple washes is my guess. One light grey with a tint of purple. One more purple on the fleshy parts. One close to black on targeted areas around the eyes for example and the deepest shadows. One brown where you want some streaks.
If you want that paint with washes that is.

Disclaimer: I never tried it so not sure how it will turn out in the end.

Slightly different but i've done a brownish dirty white for my death guard.

White undercoat

One full cover in pallid wych flesh

one full wash in watered down (3:1) seraphim sepia

a wash of the bottom third of the panels in watered down (3:1) agrax earthshade

water down palid wych flesh and glaze downward from the top of each armour panel.

Then pin wash the recesses in straight agrax

highlight edges in white scar

the metal was base in sycorax bronze

wash in agrax

highlight in sycorax again

corner highlight and raised edges in runefang steel

weathering was nihilakh oxide for the metal

straight seraphim sepia on the armour panels running down from rivets etc

You could probably get away with doing white spray + spongework for the rust/scratches and then Army Painter dip, and just don't wipe off too much. Would give you a pretty good look.
