Hi wondering if anyone can help save me a ton of time doing the Maths...

What are the 8th edition equivalence to the following 7th edition point scales?

7th 8th

1500pts = ?

1850pts = ?

2000pts = ?

Sorry if this has been asked before, brief search couldn't find anything.

Thanks

Not easy to answer. Some things increased in terms of points costs. Other things decreased in terms of points costs.

All that I can tell you is that 2000 points games seem to be the new 1850 points games, and even then, you may be missing a squad or two.

depends on your list. My 2000 point speed freek ork list is like 3000 now, my foot guard 2000 point list I was struggling to crack 1450.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Overall things cost more now, but that's mostly due to vehicles and MC's going up alot in points.

If you ran a mechanized 2000 pts list earlier you would need quite alot of points to make it legal, 2500+ most likely.

5500 pts
6500 pts
7000 pts
9000 pts
13.000 pts

This guy did a good video on the points increases from 7th to 8th edition.

Basically, if you ran a Boyz heavy army, mostly footsloggin, then you won't notice an increase in points that much. Some things actually got cheaper, like free shootas and the Nob upgrade is now free (10pts saved right there). So with that in mind you might be ok with points.

On the other hand if you ran a Speed Freak list you are going to have a bad day

Warbikers went up in price 50%
Trukkz went up in price 153%
Battlewagonz w/4 rokkitz went up in price 60%
Deff Koptas w/Rokkitz went up in price 177%
Warbuggies w/rokkitz went up in price 188%
Skorcha (Trakk with SKorcha) went up in price 88%

Now, with all of that said, basically Rokkitz are no longer good for anything except Tank Bustas. You take off the rokkitz and go with the Big Shootas and your going to save about 50% of weapons costs.

If you ran Gunline? why? LOL but Mek Gunz got a pretty hefty points hike

Mek Gunz went up in price based on the weapon. *Also took a HUGE nerf in durability. T7 3+ Save to T5 5+ Save (Mek Gunz doubled in wounds though now 6, Big Gunz didn't)

KMK went up in price 60%
Lobbas went up in price 67%
Lootas went up in price 21%

TLDR: Infantry models, almost regardless of what they did barely got any increase in price, some actually got cheaper (Stormboyz dropped 1pt per model) and some stayed the same

Vehicles got more expensive across the board and your Artillery is probably worthless now unless you are a Mehreen (Looking at you Whirlewind)

Thanks for the info and thoughts everyone.

So it's not cut and dry. Im used to 1850pts so think my group will settle on 2000pts and see how that plays out.

Keep in mind that the Points values for units, models, and upgrades will be updated over time to reflect the "meta" of larger tournaments to prevent one army from becoming too powerful for too long. So what was a 1500 Points 7th Edition army might be 2250 in 8th Edition, and it might be either 2100 or 2400 Points at the next update.

If you're used to playing at 1850 or 2000 in 7e, set your target at 2000 for 8e and see where it comes out. As others have said, costs have shifted a lot. You pay a large premium for speed and durability. You pay less for firepower than you might expect.

For Sisters, I found that if I omitted the transports, I ran out of slots before I ever hit 2000 points unless I went insane on upgrades. If I brought Rhinos and Immolators, though, those racked up the points with a quickness. On the other hand, you can now carry two MSU Sister Squads in a single Rhino, or one and a character in an Immolator. Sister superior upgrades are now worth it, especially combi-weapons (useful!) and storm bolters (cheap and strictly better than a boltgun).

With Tau, tanks, Riptides and Stormsurges all cost a ton more. Ghostkeels and Crisis Suits got a small hike (but also a moderate to significant buff, so that's fine). Broadsides went up a ton, but they're also very durable (T5/W6/Sv 2+) with very good firepower, so they're still a pretty good value. On the other hand, I found I could go insane with Fire Warriors, Pathfinders, Ethereals, Drones, Kroot and Stealth Suits.

Long story short, make extra sure to recalculate and double-check. One 1850-point 7e list might be 1250 now, another might be close to 3000. Double and triple-check the units, too: some things have a rather different role than they used to have. (Windriders with scatter lasers come to mind: outfitted like that, they're cover-camping gunline units now. If you want the old mobile harassers, you want shuriken cannons or catapults.)
