May the Emperor protect us! I opened this thread especially to discuss the unit composition of the Adeptus Ministorum (but excluding Sisters of Battle). The Ministorum units are some really strange freaks (like their Inquisitional peers). Would you field them alone or as some allies for your main force (Astra Militarum)?

The Adeptus Ministroum Army list includes:
Uriah Jacobus
Ministorum Priest
Crusader
Death Cult Assasins
Arco-Flagellants
Penitent Engines

I am working currently on an Inquisition Army but i will field some additional Ministorum units. I though about 9 Arco-Flagellants and a Priest with Heavychainsword in a Rhino and 9 Assassins and a Priest with a Heavychainsword in a Rhino. Both are brutal melee units.

I miss the option of running a mix of crusaders, assassins, arcos with a couple of priests. Imo having a couple of crusaders to tank makes the squad so much more effective. I cant for life of me understand why they split them up.

I can. Theyve tried to minimise mixed squads as much as possible. Almost all squads that used to be mixed are now their own things.

So I'm really looking forward to running Inquisitor dudes regularly this edition, and crusaders seem like some obviously good melee backup for him, but here are two pitfalls:

Compare a crusader to an acolyte geared for melee.

A crusader is 15 pts.

An acolyte with a bolt pistol and a power maul or sword is 12 (huge distinction there, as I feel the power maul is generally a better choice for a S3 model), and 8 points with a bolt pistol and chainsword.

Acolytes can absorb wounds your inquisitor takes, they take a better pounding against any D1 weapon that's AP is nothing or -1, and an equal pounding against any weapon that is D1 with a better AP. They'll take a worse pounding against multiwound weapons, but those are rare and of course acolytes are cheaper.

Acolytes can also hop in any transport, whereas crusaders are limited to the admittedly pretty good sororitas rhino.

The real saving grace here is if you're JUST using one squad of acolytes from the ministorum list, they basically get an act of faith every turn, so one guy comes back from the dead, or they double up on melee attacks. That is NICE and probably justifies the extra points you're spending on them to act as inqusitorial bodyguards.

I'm thinking about expanding my Inquisitorial forces and I made the same comparison.

I think I'm going to stick with Acolytes instead of Crusaders. Because:

- Since I have to build and convert everything: Acolytes are easier to convert (just human HtH troops, instead of hard to come by Knights).

- Acolytes are more versatile: from cheap as chips to plenty of power weapons and other combinations.

- Acolytes get the Quarry rule.

- Plenty of transports, even thought I was going to take the Rhino anyway...

And I thought about Arco-Flagelants as some extra brute force....

Yeah, see I'm in a bit of a bind because I already have a bunch of crusaders that are mostly painted, BUT my inquisitorial whip that's already built and painted is a chimera sooooo

either I have to build some guys, or build an inquisitorial rhino :/

Prob gonna do the guys for now, because like you said, versatility. I'm going to try to make them look pretty tough though, because man, 3 wounds.
