Spreading firepower around your army and across different target types will be key to the split fire edition. You don't want 1-2 specialised units taken out leaving, you with no means to target a certain threat type. And you want to confound your opponents shooting so they can't maximise their target priorities. We have this idea of tanks carrying anti-tank weaponry, which is great until they get killed and your foot-sloggers can't hit back. But if your opponent has brought an all las pred to the party and you have your own las spread across tanks, havocs and maybe a troop squad or two then how is that las pred gonna stop you killing him? He can barely hurt the infantry but they can sure hurt him.
Two predators with autocannon + las will be better than one with auto + bolters and one all las. Because to kill your anti-tank your opponent has to kill two targets, and both of them can shoot at devastator squads that are hiding their own las.
A big advantage of splitting weaponry across your army and using split fire is having to declare shots before firing. Declaring all 4 las shots from a las pred might not be very efficient as you could easily overkill something, or wiff completely. But if you have 2 preds with only a couple las each then you can declare the first tank to hit a target and see what happens. It'll be easier to know what to do with shots 3 and 4 if you can see the resolution of shots 1 and 2 first. And then have 2 more las shots from a devastator squad finish off what can be killed. 6 las shots from 3 different units that allow you resolve fire before having to declare more shots. WAY more efficient offensively and much better defensively.
If you come up against DE and all your anti-tank weaponry is on your vehicles you're gonna be so screwed. You could easily be facing down 20+ dark light shots a turn that'll toast your vehicles. You'll need anti-tank on infantry to even have a chance.
