What thing is missing from your faction's army (as far as we can tell, we're only just now dipping our toes in 8th after all) that you would like to see in a new unit or units? What new units for your army would you like to see in general?

They might not be the most Orky thing but Gretchin Snipers I think could be pretty cool. Could have Decent ranged power, some sort of cover bonus, and be relatively cheap while having piss poor leadership and also be rather squishy.

Pariahs. Necrons now have very few ways to mitigate melee-focused armies, and we need psyker defense. Our existing melee units should be decent against things like Assault Marines and Kroot, but we need something to help us deal with Tyranids, Khorne Berserkers, and other dedicated melee units. I could see Pariahs filling that niche as well as giving us some needed psychic defense.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress

I've been playing the game of "run around and try not to get shot by the plane," because the Sisters of Battle don't actually have an AA option other than bringing a flyer of our own to try to chase theirs away. And said "flyer of our own" isn't actually a flyer of our own. It's just an Aeronautica Imperalis flyer that someone remembered to allow us to take.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

on the forum. Obviously

For Crons -

-Pariahs. Because psyker defense and because I have to use mine as lychguard.

-Void Dragon Shard and Outsider Shard - In the 3rd ed Necron codex there were 4 C'tan mentioned to be still active, to mirror the 4 ruinous powers. We have 2 of them. Lets have the rest.

-Thematically appropriate looking necron vehicles that are actually tough.
I have a big problem with the current design of necron vehicles, in that they aren't consistent with the faction's lore and appearance.
The monolith was the only necron vehicle and its most iconic unit, a large, featureless pyramid with no obvious weakpoints...so of course the next logical step are to give the necrons vehicles that look nothing like the monolith and are full of gaping weak points that a race obsessed with prolonging their lives would never consider.

Necron vehicles should be autonomous; they should not have crew, especially hanging out and making themselves an OBVIOUS TARGET.
Necron vehicles should be geometric shapes. Necrons are all about order and function, there should be no gaps and windows so they may feel the air on their metallic hides.
In terms of rules necron vehicles are also inconsistent, as necrons, a race known for their resiliant, have perhaps some of the weakest vehicles in the game in terms of base stats; T6 4+ save is pathetic.
Maybe something like a T7 3+ save Orb with a deathray. That would be a proper necron vehicle.

-Some sort of teleportation vehicle that works like the 3rd monolith teleport (necrons should not ride in transports. So no transport capacity for Arks, just a repair boat. Not that it was a good transport to begin with)

-More walkers (ideally autonomous tripods. The stalker would look great if not for the OBVIOUS TARGET)

-Flyers with a cockpit cover (Again, OBVIOUS TARGET)

-Some sort of Anti-Air option. Tesla can never proc against airborn targets due to the -1 to hit, as if you can proc tesla on a 5+ from a hit modifier, then logically it would work in the other way too.

-Canoptek buff option. Like an HQ or an Elite or something.

- Oh, and maybe human followers. In the old lore there was a cult of necron worshippers on mars who say them as true servants of the machine god, and sacrificed people to become pariahs. In the new lore this is still possible, as quite a few Overlords now have a superiority complex, and would be fine with subjugating lesser races to serve as cannon fodder.

Oh and since I'm bitching about necron designs - get rid of that stupid frill on the necron heads. I hated it ever since they were released.

Now onto orks

- Scarboyz. Apparently orks used to have these guys. This was before I started playing orks, so I don't know much about them. Might be nice to see them again.

- ard boyz. Because 4+ saves.

- Some sort of character targeting option. It doesn't necessarily have to be a sniper rifle, it could just as easily be some sort of pistol that Kommandos have.
A grot sharpshooter might be fluff friendly though. Maybe something like greenskinned ratlings.

- Looted Wagons. Because I want to steal gak, like a proper ork should

- The possibility of making an all grot army. Remember Da Red Gobbo from Gorkamorka? Something like that would be fun.

for the time being you could proably take one of the Space Marine anti air tanks and paint it up in sisters colours, I know it's telling you to take space Marines but, legally it'd work within your army, and the rhino Chassis would mean it'd look like it belonged in your army with the right paint scheme.

For:

Khorne CSM armies: Skullcrushers. Basically elite Berserkers on Juggernauts. Space Wolves get giant wolf mounts but Zerks don't, and this injustice must be corrected!

Tau (Kroot): Make a HQ-level Shaper and return of Knarloc riders and Greater Knarlocs.

Orks: Looted Wagons and Freebootas (basically Lootas or Flash Gitz that can be taken as mercenaries in other armies).

Eldar: Phoenix Lords for Shining Spears and Warp Spiders.

Dark Eldar: Hellion Boards and Reaver Jetbike options for the Succubus and Archons. Possibly Scourge Wings upgrade too for Archons.

Tyranids: Malefactor Biotitan. We got the Exocrine and Haruspex, I think we should round it out with a Malefactor (who basically acts as the Nid's land transport).

GSC: Liiiiimmmmmoooooo. If this needs explaining we'll need to have a chat with Human Resources.

T'au Empire:

Drone Harbinger: Basically a Vehicle chassis with a Drone Rack (Make it a dual-kit with the Devilfish, like the Skyray/Hammerhead). From Dawn of War: Dark Crusade
XV-4 and XV-46 Battlesuits: basically terminator-sized/-rolled battlesuits used to navigate Space Hulks and similar situations. From FFG's Deathwatch, I believe.
XV-22 Stealth Suits: Mass production of Shadowsun's favored line. She's been testing it, and showing it kicks ass, for hundreds of years. HUNDREDS OF YEARS. They can start mass-producing dual-wielding stealthy awesome yesterday.
Shas'o Kais: Third student of the great Commander Puretide, this is a Third Way that could be explored, whether as alternatives or companions to Kauyon and Mont'ka, with Sept tactics and bespoke rules.

Kroot:

Give me an updated Kroot line, with new and distinct weapon choices and rules for mutation to match - in essence, an expanded version of the Kroot Mercenaries semi-official codex, with winged kroot, sniper kroot, poisonous kroot, shaman/psyker kroot, and more interesting weapon choices. I'd love to see Knarlocs, perhaps winged Knarlocs (Krooterydactls?), and of course a return of the legendary late great Great Knarloc. I want Wulfen-munching Hulkroots, Krootstodes, waves of frothing-at-the-mouth Orkroot, vexaciously speedy Eldakroot, and more.

I want Kroot to blossom from being a neglected arm of the Tau Empire to becoming a faction in its own right, or at least a potentially independent one ala Genestealer Cults to Tyranids.

Dark Eldar need a Reaver HQ, whether it is an Archon, Succubus or preferably both. The used to have this option and have been lacking even since it was dropped. Autarch Skyrunners are fantastic and can easily 'count as' this in a DE army, but it would be nice to have a 'true' Dark Eldar Reaver HQ

A Protoss colony world

For Dark Angels, I'd like to see Interrogator-chaplain Sapphon as a character model. He was an interesting character in the Legacy of Caliban stories, the only 40k story collection I've ever read. Seeing him on the tabletop would be awesome. Of course, maybe they figure they've already got enough special Interrogators (Asmodai). I'd also like to see DA get some decent anti-air. Maybe a new variant of the Land Speeder Vengeance with an anti-air gun on it. Also, I want a model of the Lion!

For Tau, I'd like to see some Gue'vesa (human auxiliaries). We know from the fluff that they exist, so I think there should be models of them. Maybe they could be like Fire Warriors, but with the option for special weapons like Pathfinders (but not markerlights).

For CSM/Khorne, Skullcrushers as one person already mentioned in this thread (Berserkers on Juggernauts) would be a great analog to Space Wolves' ThunderCav. AoS/Fantasy already has them, so why not 40k? For that matter, why not special mounted units like that for all the cult legions. Marines on Slaanesh Steeds could be fast but fragile compared to Skullcrushers, Tzeentch Disc Riders could be okay, but I'm not sure how you would make a whole unit of guys on Palanquins of Nurgle fun. Maybe make them stupidly slow and tough?

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 21 | Current main painting project: Warhammer 40k Leviathan set

A lot of armies need filled out IMO. Just on numbers alone, loyalist SM have 5 options or more in every FOC slot other than troops and other armies need to get there. I love the idea of playing custodes and sisters of silence in 40k but it just doesn't work if you have one box of infantry and a repack of another army's transports to work with.

For Custodes:

Boxy dreadnoughts

Heavy Support units. Maybe this means custodes with heavy weapons, maybe this also means some bigger tanks. The FW grav tank looks gorgeous. Maybe that but with a large cannon taking up its transport capacity.

Sicarans and other Rhino/ LR variants.

Fast Attack options. I don't know what I want here, really. I would be hesitant to say I want an Assault Marine equivalent for custodes, but they need something to round out this slot.

For Sisters of SIlence:

Basically the same as Custodes. They need filled out options to be used as a real army. I'm not totally sure what I want here though honestly.

The only specific idea I have is a pathfinder equivalent for sisters of silence. Sisters with infiltrate or some Deep Strike equivalent and an ability to give troops sisters +1 to hit or something.

Sisters of Battle:

different heavy/special weapon options.

A centurion equivalent for sisters of battle because I want to see the world burn.

for Loyalist SM:

Veterans downgraded to scout armor but equipped with snipers that can use special issue ammo.

For CSM:

Berzerkers riding on Juggernauts.

a super mutated dreadnought so I can use the Mhara Gal model in 40k.

Dark Apostles in TDA

Dark Apostles on bikes or with jump packs.

For Orks:

Looted vehicles

Since they kind of boned praetorians (no dynasty keyword) I think it would be neat to see them get enough units to be their own army. They are, for all intents and purposes, the custodes of the Necrons, we know the silent king is still around and active in the galaxy, it would be interesting to see the kind of forces he is rocking. Maybe a few named characters, a transport option, some kind of upgraded immortal to use as troops, maybe something like a necrosphinx as a heavy, A new C'Tan, they could really go wild.

More Chaos Daemon Engines: why should Khorne get the only marked superheavy?

More Ork anything: Cyboar riders, tanks, new buggies and war trakks, 'ard boyz, stikkbommas, bikes with sidecars, looted grav tanks, deffkopta warboss, and so on.

Or combine my favorite armies: mutated Orks with marks of chaos and Ork daemons, or Chaos renegades with ramshackle open-topped vehicles, improvised weapons, and half their power armour missing.
