So, now that landraiders got gud, I dusted off an old chassis I had sitting in my closet and hacked it apart for converting. I always thought raiders were all backwards, what them basically just being WW1 trapazoid tanks. I spun this fella around and swapped the engine and assault ramp (actually, replaced the door with a Valkyrie ramp door). Now that vehicles don't have firing arcs, I mounted the much cooler looking covered (hurricane bolter) sponsons, and smattered the other weapon systems around (havok launcher in the back, combimelta in the hull) and a cute baneblade turret for the heavy bolters.

Looks pretty good. The heavy bolter extended barrels don't work very well (they look exactly like what they are...added bits to a heavy bolter barrel). Overall I like it. I think the direction looks better than the normal one.

Interesting work.

With the tiny little bolter turret on top, can't help but think it looks like a Chimera on steroids from the side though, honestly.

I expect it'll look more balanced when painted.

I'd also echo the above; the little tubes on the heavy bolters don't really work. Not sure of the purpose or intention of them.

Ooh that looks cool. It looks better that way, it's why old tanks were sloping up on the front too. Easier to get over stuff.

I'm of a different opinion, I like the turret. The barrel extensions work for me. Heavy Bolters looked too stubby to me.

Good work!

Great work! I actually think that it looks better this way and a tad more logical from a design perspective.

Out of curiosity, how difficult was it to actually convert your land raider? Is it something you'd perhaps be able/willing to produce a guide for?

Would be great to see some photo's of it painted.

Keep up the good work.

A LR lookes more massive that way, i like the conversation.
The turret just pops out because it`s darker plastic. Painted it will look good.

The new rules for firing arcs and split fire are perfect to scratch build vehicles, especially for orks.
Now you can go just for the looks and don`t have to care about half your weapons not being able to fire.

Thanks guys!
The turret and weapons will be red, the hull will be bone.

@FreeFrag.UKMade , converting it wasn't too difficult, but required some cutting and gap filling. The model was second hand so I didnt feel too bad about chewing it up. It might be easier to convert right out of the kit.
-I ripped the engine off and put it where the assault ramp would go.
-I used the crew compartment plate from a Taurox to make the rear sloping deck and seal up the engine.
-I cut some plasticard to fit over where the old heavybolter turret and top of the assault ramp were and put some gribblies on it to break up the space.
-I used a Valkyrie rear door for the new assault ramp at the front, along with some plasticard and bits to build up the view ports.

I don't have any progress photos of the build, but it was pretty straightforward, and mostly just relied on using styrine and bits to fill in gaps.

Very cool, the turrets a bit small though I feel.

*shrug*
It's just for heavy bolters. Any bigger would look weird I think.
I based the whole thing off early ww1 tanks, which tend to have dinky little turrets with only machineguns in them.
