Hello! I just bought my first box of Ork Lootas/Burnas, and I still have no idea which one I want to assemble them as. Give me pros and cons based on 8th edition.

Burnas got pretty heavily nerfed in 8th edition, but even prior to that Lootas were usually the better choice. They provide solid long range weight of fire - while not all lists will have them, they have an easy role to fill. Meanwhile Burnas can be fun and potentially powerful, but you have to build around them and they don't really add anything that Orks don't already do well.

Magnetize the weapons and have both.

That said, Burnas are trash weapons now (they always have been :tear: ); Lootas still look moderately decent.

I'd go with Lootas if I couldn't magnetize and have both.

Lootas are way more useful as they're the only long range weapon orks have with some mek gunz and the shokk attack gun. Burnas have to get in range and then they don't have the strenght to compete with he other shot range shooty units like tankbustas, bikes and flash gitz. This in an army which relies mostly on close combat.

Go with burnas only if you love the models and you're interested in a themed army in which you like the idea of a unit of burnaboyz.

Depends on what you are trying to do?

If you are just building an army for fun games then do whatever you want.

If you are building an army to be a bit competitive but have fun then go with Lootas

If you are building an army to be competitive and go to tournaments go with NEITHER.

Tankbustas are better across the board pretty much in the elite slot

And Lootas are nice but lack the damage output of Mek Gunz or Big Gunz. Of course if you want to give Lootas a Trukk or a wagon for 70/160pts respectively they can be fairly durable and you can use command points to reroll # of shots. But even on the high end Lootas aren't that great. 15 Lootas can put out 45 S7 shots a turn if they roll high. But even then they are ending up with 15 hits on average, which don't get me wrong is nice, but not nearly as cost effective as you think. On top of that the real average for Lootas is 10 hits which against T4-6 is 6ish Wounds. Against a 5+ save that becomes 5 dead models.

thats 255pts btw. For a similar cost you could field almost 10 Big Gunz armed with Kannonz. They put out 10 S8 shots at -2 AP and D6 damage compared to the lootas doing 2 damage. OR they do D6 S4 shots each so 10 Kannons puts out on average about 35 S4 shots a turn at BS3 so 17 hits and against a T4 model that is 9 wounds, against a 5+ save thats 6 Dead models. The Lootas do have an advantage on Targets of T5 and 6 though since those will be wounding on 5s not 4s and for lootas they wound on 3s.

Against a Hardened target, IE Vehicles or Bunkers Kannonz are still superior, especially against T8 models.

Those 10 kannonz will hit 5 times, do -2 to armor and D6 damage which averages to about 3.5 or almost double what the Lootas can do. Id take Kannonz over Lootas.

Burnaz have a place, in Kommandos units (at least until they give an FAQ) because at the moment, they're free to take.

You can use burnas in commando squads. They're ok there.

The torsos and legs have the same proportions as those in the boyz box, so build 4 fewer boyz and have both.

Or save the burna bitz, dig through your bitzbox, and make a few Flash Gits!

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.
