I haven't played 40k in a very long time and I'm looking to get back in to it with an Ynnari list. I could really use help because I am so behind on rules and what's good that I'm honestly a complete newb. I'd like to play something fun but somewhat competitive. I really don't feel like getting stomped every game haha!! These are the lists I'm considering and I could really use advice on what's good and what isn't! If they're all terrible(which they very may be) I'm open to any suggestions or recommendations. I'm buying everything from scratch so there's no restrictions on what models I can use.Thanks everyone!!

Your playing a fluff list, not much to say sry.

We need more info, like the models you really like and want to make work.
For instance, you put a Death Jester in each of your list. I assume it's a model you really like (I can't blame you on that one!), but it's pretty weak in 7th.
The Visarch looks boss, but is so bad it's hard to understand how they came up with his point cost (he costs twice as much as a troupe master, for a similar damage output and no aura).

Also, some info on how you want to play you list would help. On the first list for instance, what type of support are you expecting from Eldrad? And is the visarch going to ride a WS with the banshees? Are the warriors going to foot slog?

You always put 10x Fire Dragons in a WS. I think it's better to go with 2 units of 5. You get two exarchs, and more units means more soulbursting. Even if you don't want to add a second WS, you can put the two units of 5 in the same one.

I like Striking Scorpions, so I would lean towards the lists that include Karandras. He will help the Striking Scorpions to perform better. I would use Biting Blade or Chain Sabres over the Scorpion Claw, it's to expensive and wastes part of the abilities of the Exarch.

Unfortunately the Visarch is pretty useless for its cost (which is a shame, he looks badass). I would never consider fielding him in its current state.

Yvraine could replace a Farseer and provide you with the great Word of the Phoenix psychic power. For an Ynnari army she has more synergy.

Do you like Scourges? They could replace Fire Dragons if armed with the right weapons, and save you the points of a WS (which, on the other hand, is quite the useful unit).

Harlequin troupes in Starweavers are great, I would consider fielding two for redundancy as they are relatively fragile.

I hope I helped you. In the end you should field the units you like, even if some are theoretically better than the others.

Honestly the only models I really like are the scorpians. Other than that I'd be open to just about anything. I'm not hell bent on having any particular models in my list. I'm just looking for something that will be fun to play as well as somewhat competitive. I haven't really played since 5th edition so my understanding of the rules and even how units operate is very limited at the moment. The reason I included the death jester in each list was that he could sit with the rangers for character sniping but if he's no good then I'd rather spend the points elsewhere. Any and all advice is welcome, those lists were strictly ideas and more of a starting point reference than anything...

All I've done is read others lists and kind of put something together. It'd never crossed my mind it'd be better to field two units of fire dragons rather than one or that they could ride in the same serpent. The main ideas were units with serpents would be my sttacking units. Units on foot would hold objectives, hang around the backfield if necessary or footslog depending on what was needed. Pretty basic because as I've said, I'm just gettting back into this and my knowledge of the current game is very limited.


For instance.... I just made this up after reading the responses... would this be viable? Fun and somewhat competitive? Any units that are terrible? Lol
