Subject: Should I get back into Warhammer 40k?

So, I've been out of the game since the end of 4th/start of 5th. I play(ed) Orks; and have every intention of continue to play them.
Since the new rules and the various leaks; I've been doing a ton of reading, and I must say that I really like a lot of the new rules, and directions they've started heading for 8th edition.
That said, there are some major imbalances that keep coming up - and I'm trying to figure out, how much does this matter? I want to be able to play the game, and enjoy it in a casual manner. I'm up to collect/play multiple 2000 point armies; but I have no intention of powergaming/WAAC (not even sure if I could as Orks; I'd be better off relocating to IG/Tyranids).
I'd like to head to tournaments with the intention of finding new people and armies to play against, and not with the intention of winning; that said, since it's a tournament - I would fully be expecting WAAC lists, which defeats the purpose of going in the first place.
How have you guys dealt with these concerns? I don't have a regular playgroup to game with; I'd be heading to FLGS to meet people and play games - with the release of the new edition, this'll be the best time to do so as well.

I am also returning after dropping 7th like a bad drug habbit. And I actually did play waac for awhile before even that got old.
A regular play group is what this game is designed for honestly. Even this "most tested" edition is way out of balance IMO.
That said its a new direction and looks fun (haven't played yet) so yea you got the money and the time then why not.

I would say your enjoyment will greatly depend on the people that you can find to play with. Cast the net wide and see if there are a few clubs/stores to choose from. Enjoyment of the game is pretty much down to how you and your opponent interact, so you have to find a good fit. Don't just jump in with both feet until you can find a good community, as it'll just not be enjoyable and a waste of money. Also, be open about what kind of games you want. Agreeing to a game when both parties end up wanting different things is not fun for anyone.
8th does seem like fun though. They removed a lot of the really annoying mechanics that have been around a while. It's not perfect but is definitely worth a few rolls of the dice to see how you find it.

I went to a release event today and played my first games since 4E. Had some very friendly and helpful folks there walk us through the new rules, and the game seems very approachable and playable. Definitely worth checking out!

Thanks for the responses guys; I'll have to head down to my pair of FLGS and see how they're doing over the coming weekends - I'm regretting not having an army ready to go for launch day.
PRETTY sure I'm getting back into this game, haha. Can't stop thinking about if I want to or not - which just means, do it.
