Subject: Tournaments - Dealing with 4 Knights at 2000points?

It's reasonable to expect this list to pop up at tournaments; it's got a lot of wounds (96 total, with 5+ Invuln), outputs tremendous shooting power (up to 8d6 S8 AP-2 D3 damage shots from 72" away), and has only 4 units to deploy - it'll pretty much always be going first.
Do you think it'll be a legitimate contender, or more of a gimmick army; at least with regards to tournaments?
It seems like it'll be real tough to bring an all comers list that can have a realistic chance of dealing with all comers; it seems that you're either packing enough firepower to deal with Infantry, or Vehicles, but probably not both.
As an Ork, I'm trying to come up with a list that could have a decent shot of beating that list; let alone one that be able to hold it's own against the rest of the field - how do other players/factions feel about the possibility of encountering this list at a tournament?

I was going to say Hordes, but Ttianic Feet put out 12 attacks a turn...

I would not be impressed. 4 imperial knights are not the best at shooting, not the best at close combat and not the best at achieving objectives. They are tough but not flexible enough to win tournament games. Meanwhile their opponent can simply pick a flank and take down a knight from that side and send in other units to keep the rest busy. A lictor cost less then 50 points and can easily appear in the backfield on top of an objective. A knight cannot do anything about that without overkilling it and wasting its potential on a 50 point creature.
My tyranid armylist got 15 biovores that shoot spore mines that create mortal wounds, 3 flying hive tyranids with deathspitters that can do psychic mortal wounds and spitter, and 3 mawlocks that do mortal wounds when the appear. Oh and don't forget the 20 genestealers with rending claws. No, i'am not afraid...

with my orks I'd most likely laugh and remember that securing any objectives at all is by *number of models you have standing on it*.
Imperial Knight vs 2 ork boyz on an objective - knight loses.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Focus on the mission. Outside of No Mercy, Knights can generally only pick up secondaries in Eternal War missions and not many Maelstrom objectives favor them either. Don't get tunnel visioned into thinking you have to kill them all, sometimes getting them to the next tier on the damage chart is good enough, at 6 wounds left their effectiveness has degraded quite a lot.

I think lean mean tournament winning machine lists will outplay a murder of knights.
I think on of the keys will be to protect, either through LoS or through reserving, your killer units from the first turn barrage. And after that you focus down 1 knight at a time
