Hello fellow 40kers i am a new player and want to start a Tau army because i like the mechas but know that all the battlesuits are elites and don't want to make a elite army (what ever the thing is called) as i think it takes the whole point of it being elite out of it. So my question is what is the general tactics of a Tau army and a good beginner army list for me to try out

Id start by deciding on synergy factors. 1st, how do you want to reroll 1s? There is a support system that you can buy for each battlesuit, or ethereals give an aura of it, or markerlights first ability. 2nd mobility, how do you plan to get to points safely? There is infiltrate, manta strike, walking, devilish. 3rd how does moving affect your heavy weapons? You could just rely on range, take target lock, or markerlights 3rd ability. 4th survivability, how do you not get flaked? Early warning override system, flamers, tidewalls against a table edge, darkstride and fly for retreats.

Firewarriors, pathfinder and vespid are supposedly doing well in 8th, stores are movable or ranged. See if you can get all the roles to synergize in a fun way. I want to try long strike and ţwo hammerhead plus a marker drone port with a fire blade in it and a broad side to over watch.
