Freaky Flayed One

Quick question. I know I can put a Tervigon in a Tyrannocyte. When I deploy the Tyrannocyte and the Terv has to be more then 9 inches from the enemy. Can I then spawn gaunts (paid in reserve points) closer to the enemy since the gaunt spawning just says that they need to be more then 1 inch away, or do the gaunts spawned in this case have to be more then 1 inch away.
Thanks

yes you can. but i wouldn't. Gants don't belong in melee. A unit of 10 in the enemies face isn't a big threat. It's both a waste of the pods potential and the Tervigon.

Oh, nice idea. Tyrannocyte deployment and gaunt spawning both happen at the end of the movement phase, so you get to decide the order. I'd say the gaunts would end up just outside of 3" of the enemy since the tervigon is deployed more than 9" from the enemy and the gaunts are withing 6" of the tervigon.
Spending 40 points to tie up a vehicle or disrupt a heavy weapons team can definitely be worth it.

For sure.
If you can strike a unit that:
- has no recourse for firing after leaving combat
- would probably do more than 40 points of damage to you if allowed to shoot
... it seems like a great idea.
I'd be more concerned about potentially leaving the Tervigon exposed at ~9" from the remaining enemy forces.

Thats the thing. It's not 40points. It's 290+a pod with the tervigon loosing out on the majority of it's bonuses by not being surrounded by blobs of gants to buff.
Your wasting that Tervigon for the gimmick of tying up a unit. Might as well bring a Trygon with a full unit of genestealers or Hormagaunts and then actually do damage.

The trygon tunnel doesn't provide backfield psychic power support, 5d6+14 shots, or guarantee a charge like a tervigon in a tyrannocyte. Both options are useful as distractions and would do well against different setups.

I was about to say. People were losing their gak when they found this out. "Crying broken" and "overpowered" when in reality it is tactically a terrible a choice and very rare, you'd ever want to do it. Gaunts cost 40pts, Tervigon bare min 250pts most likely more for upgrades/weapons. Plus nearly 150 (probably more cause you'll want barb or venoncannons) thats roughly 450 points, for a transport (albeit a very dakka trasnport), a really really bad Monsterious creature (in combat, its synergy is great though) and some of the weakest troops in the game who can tie up enemy models the next turn.
You can do this much better with dedicated forces such as SwarmLord and several squads of Ravenors or genstealers. Unless you really really want that drop, I'd recommend going elsewhere with your points.
