I'd like to use some Conscripts in my army. I don't like the idea of using regular Cadians.

Has anyone used bolt action miniatures? Do they look/fit to scale with the other GW models?

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Well, not as cheap as you'd probably like for conscripts, you can take a lot at these:

Just make your conscripts out of DKOK models. I'm sure somebody needs a kidney...

Bolt Action do look pretty small and chunky next to GW

If $$ wasn't issue than yes.

Google images showed me this, https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/comments/3dnclh/work_in_progress_valhallan_infantry_using_bolt/

It doesn't look terrible. Good enough for me. After all it's a screening blob unit. What do you guys/gals think? It may not be pretty but it's fairly affordable.

One interesting thing I noticed is that while GW charges $30 for a 10-man infantry squad, you can get 5 infantry models from them for $10. So if you buy your infantry 5 at a time you're paying $2/model instead of $3/model. I think the reason for the lower price is that the 5-model set only comes with lasguns, while the 10-man set comes with wargear sprues.

Though the big boxes from Bolt Action do still end up more cost-efficient overall, especially if you do also play Bolt Action. They just seem to like giving big discounts for buying in bulk, a practice it would be nice to see GW copy...

The cheap ones are also snap-fit, but after 150 guys, who is really concerned about having individual poses anymore?

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

What regiment models do you use? Cadians or something else? For my steel legion conscripts I use the snapfit cadians with the shoulder bads and armour chopped/filed down and the pig iron kolony milita respirator heads. In general though id reccommend using the snapfit cadians with some headswaps/cut downs to keep it cheap and simple. Conscripts arent really a unit you want to break the bank on since youll be removing a lot of them

Not to mention that the only real wargear selection on the cadians are melee weapons and pistol for a sergeant and some special weapons. If you're not planning to convert the cadians the snapfits are definitely better value.

Here's my attempt at Valhallans using WWII winter Soviets from bolt action. If you put them on GW bases the size difference is minimal. However, they look really weird with GW weapons. I explain it better in the thread if you want to check that OP. That said, even just ordering rifles from another company like Vic still makes them cheaper than GW models. $40 for the infantry box and about $40 for the Vic rifles, I'm still paying $80 total for 40 models, and that's without finding bolt action stuff on sale. Warlord just got done with a sprue sale recently so you could've picked up the Soviets at half price had you got in on that, which would lower your total to $60 for 40 infantry.

If you run Cadians for your main dudes, Catachans painted in orange look like good Penal Legion counts-as Conscripts. Lots of examples online.
