Does anyone know or have any ideas if renegades and heretics will still be similar in regards to taking imperial guard like units (infantry / tanks) and if they will be able to be mixed with death guard?

No one will know until the Index is out on the 23rd. They will probably just have the Chaos keyword, with the possibility of being able to take AM keyword stuff like the GSC can.

I agree with Trickstick. There is no reason at all to believe that FW would have so drastically changed the army that you cannot even take normal IG units. In practice, I personally think the keywords will be something like: Chaos, Astra Militarum, Renegades and Heretics, perhaps with a supplementary rule to forbid you from taking already named regiments (to prevent heretic Creed etc.).

But wait until friday.

there is the potential they don't give them the chaos keyword, but its very unlikely

They will probably have the chaos and renegades &a heretics keywords but wil allow certain listed AM units to swap their imperium and AM keywords for those. The contents page for the book only lists units FW produces Model's for, so the bulk of the list (the vehicles mostly, maybe infantry squads though they may just have to do with "militia") will be from index imperial 2.

Renegades have the Chaos keyword so can be taken in any Chaos army.
