Haven't played much 40k in years, trying to get back in. Two games played, already feeling discouraged. Both have been 500 point, maines and sisters, I believe.

First match, he brought a razorback, 5 scout with snipers, 3 bikes, 5 tactical and a leader. I had tyranid prime, 3 warriors, roughly 20 gants with fleshborers and 2 units of 20 gaunts. I made a lot of mistakes, but my gaunts couldn't cut through paper and the warriors with 2s to hit, still couldn't hurt the bikes. It did end up being close, but frustrating.

Second match, he brought a sniper, 5 scouts, rhino, 9 flagellents, some figure that buffed them, a leader and a 5 man tactical. I had tyranid prime, 3 warriors, 30 gaunts, 3 biovores and a lictor. Flagellents were getting something like 40-50 close combat attacks a turn, hitting on 3s, wounding on 3s, had a 5+ invulnerable, annoying buggers. Shredded right through my gaunts, lictor took out scouts, warriors and prime took out tactical. He killed everything but 2 biovores and it was done.

I've always been a fan of swarms, love huge numbers and big battles, my choice in miniatures may show that. But I'm not an overly competitive gamer. I just like to have fun, without getting wiped. We're starting a short league, matches at 500, 1500 and 2000 points. Can I get some tips, list ideas, etc, within the models I do have for this environment? It's looking like mostly marines, othr tyranids and orks.

I have:

2 walking hive tyrants, talons and stranglethorn/talons and bonesword with lash whip
2 carnifexes, claws and talons
1 zoanthrope
11 ripper swarms
1 lictor
3 biovores and a lot of spore mines
10 warriors (I typically use 1 as the prime) with talons, devourers/deathspitters, some with strangler
3 tyrant guard
3 hive guard
20 or so genestealers
1 broodlord
88 hormagaunts
120 termigants, 40 fleshborers, 80 devourers

Help?

Well, you look to have two good building blocks. 1) Brood lord+ 15 to 20 Stealers , and 2) three (or two) Biovores, with a x3 Brood of Warriors to babysit...can you put a Cannon on the Warriors? That would help the Warriors take part in the fire fight.

At 500, you will likely only have room for one Block, then at 1000, you can use both with plenty of other support units.

It depends on your "style" Biovores are crazy good at plinking, and Stealers tend to delete anything they can contact. You Might plump down for Adrenals on the Stealers, or Poison, but you probibly don't need to.

Good luck! And good hunting!

Light on Synapse, but at 500, there is no way to cover every base. It depends on how you prefer to play...mad ruse CC vs static(ish) shooting. Both Should give good results. (But...I personally prefer to make contact )

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think I would try...Brood lord, x15 Brood of Stealers, Warrior Brood x3 w/Cannon?, then fill in with a Brood of Termagants.

Sounds good, going to take that and tweak it slightly. That small a brood of termagants may not do much. Going to go with broodlord, 4 warriors - 3 w/deathspitters, 1 barbed strangler and 18 genestealers. Should hit 497 if I counted right. Warriors Broodlord and genestealers can rush up, warriors can take a bit more time, getting some shooting in to support, then charge. No worries about synapse anywhere, and I don't have to cart dozens of dead off the field.

When we get to our 1500 and 2000 point matches, I'll be able to pile on the gaunts and gants.
