So a while ago I started my own comission service and now I'm thinking about getting a camera so I can take better photos and make video tutorials. Problem is I know nothing about cameras. What kind of specifications should I look for in a camera? How much would it cost?

I'll let someone with genuine photography answer, but one thing you'll be considering more than the camera is the full lighting set-up. With a decent background and lighting (and a free image software program) you can do some great stuff even with cell-phone cameras.

For single or small miniatures you'll want to make sure whatever you get has a good macro setting (basically a setting for taking supreme close-up shots - I believe).

Important question: do you care about photography in general, or do you just want a cheap way to take pictures of your models? If you want a good general-purpose camera you'll probably want to invest in a starter-level DSLR and lenses, if you just want a way to take pictures of your work (and aren't a high-level expert who needs the best possible pictures to properly represent your work) you can get away with a cheaper camera as long as it has full control over the settings in manual mode. Either way you'll also need to buy a good tripod and a light box.

I want a camera for making video tutorials, so it has to be good enough for people to actually see the details.

But "good enough" is relative. If you have a good lighting setup you can do videos with a fairly cheap camera, and you may even want a specialized video camera over one designed for still images. But that same camera won't be nearly as good if you want to use it for general photography like taking landscape shots outdoors in dim light, if you want to do photography beyond miniatures. How much you care about getting the best photographs for the sake of having good art is going to make a huge difference in how much of a financial investment you should make.
