So this morning I noticed that there was a scratch on my Jeep that wasn't there before (this is on the Freedom Hard top before anyone panicks. That thing is pure plastic, not metal, so no risk of rusting). It's deep enough that running my finger over it that I can feel a bit of a dip, but otherwise just a white scratch. About 4 inches long running alongside the side.
I was thinking of finding a good filler and some paint to fix it myself, there's no structural damage and paying a few hundred to have it professionally done seems like overkill (at least until I get enough scratches to justify it). Googling has led me to a few websites recommending that "model paints" would be good, and what better place to get advice on "model paints" than Dakka. Has any of you guys tried fixing a car scratch like this? I was thinking of sanding down the area a bit, apply a bit of paint and then going over with some spray (or paint on) varnish.
Also since there is a bit of a dip, do any of you car professionals know of a cheap filler I can use? I see some people recommending that resin that's used with fiberglass. Others recommend buying a repair kit specifically for this but I don't know if it comes with a filler. I don't know if I can buff it out (it's not that deep so I think I can?)
Btw I'm also emailing my bodyshop owner for advice too, but I'd like to see what you guys can offer as well.
