Ok so trying to put together a list that pairs Tyranid assault with Imperial Guard gunline support.

Tyranid Battalion Detachment:

Swarmy
Broodlord
2x Tyrant guard w/rending claws, scything talons, adrenal glands

20 Genestealers
20 Genestealers
3 Rippers

Dimachaeron

Trygon w/ 3x scything talons, toxinspike, bio-electric pulse, adrenal glands
Trygon w/ 3x scything talons, toxinspike, adrenal glands, bio-electric pulse, adrenal glands

Astra Militarum Auxiliary Support Detachment:

3 Wyverns, heavy bolters

GSC Auxiliary Support Detachment:

22 neophyte hybrids, lasguns

4 command points


So the idea is the wyverns mow down screening units. 5 assault units follow up. The neophytes either act as a screening unit if they need to or cult ambush in for more firepower and to soak overwatch if the situation calls for it

I'd really like to include more genestealers but such is points limits. Also if the GSC do cult ambush, then the Rippers have to start on the board, but these are minor quibbles. Would love to hear ideas about how to improve the list

I believe that for matched play, you get additional flexibility and the ability to choose to have 1 or 2. In my opinion, this is probably because you can't really take 7 and divide it by 3 for power levels and have it be a round number. An FAQ would be nice to clear this up though

Tyrant Guard datasheet has them at 3 minimum

Rule book has it so you have to pay for 3 even though you are not using 3..

Xenos2 book, has a bit that suggests it isn't the case.. but I do believe it is the oddity amongst the books

Also, if I'm not mistaken, this army is technically illegal. What Faction Keyword do the Wyverns share with the Tyranids (like the Broodlord)?

GSC have the rule you can take 1 AM detachment for every GSC detachment you have in your army



But with this list.. maybe drop at least 1 unit of Genestealers down to 15man

(this will cover the points for the missing TG as well)

and take a Magus

that way you get the no overwatch power.. and you get a extra command point

I don't think I'd want a third Tyrant guard unless I had to put one in, and I don't think I need to. The number of discrepancies make me think that all of discrepancies were intended.

The Magus is a pretty good idea...especially since he can stay in reserves if the guys I'm charging turn 1 have crappy overwatch....but what do I drop? I don't think he's worth losing 6 Stealers, and he's certainly not worth a Wyvern

Hmmm... looks interesting.
I am not sure that the Wyvern will do better than very cheap Dakkafexes. On average they also just have 14 shots compared to 12 on the Fex. So I actually do not think they are necessary...

Can you explain?

My guess is it's the range. 48" on wyverns, 18' on dakkafex.

And indirect fire. And shred. Also thinking about doing Taurox primes for their 20 shot Gatling cannon, and array of other options for dirt cheap, but I lose shred and go back down to 24" range (though 14" move on the prime helps)
