I consider myself a pretty good painter but I cannot for the life of me fogure out how to make my gold look good. Ive been using Auric Armor Gold and then washing with Agrax brcause I think it looks better than a sepia wash. After that I go back to Auric. This works fine on areas that have actual depth but on flat surfaces I cannot figure out how to get a dang highlight going.
I tend to highlight gold with silver, personally. Or if I'm trying to do nmm, I'll use off-white. Recently I used a sort of half metallic, half non-metallic technique on a couple of models. It's hard to describe, but this video explains it pretty well. Skip to the gold droid, obviously!
