So my IG "army" started out of Shadow War Armageddon and has very quickly grown into something usable in 40k given the new detachments. For my initial 10man squad (kill team) I used the 32mm Shadow War terrain themed bases, because they look great.

I've never played IG before so I'm wondering if 32mm bases are going to hurt me in the long run? ...deep strike, templates, disembarking and assault are the main reasons, that I can remember, where base size played a factor, but now it seems mostly just for assault and disembark.

2nd question... the Stormlord, is it possible to disembark 40 models within 3" of the vehicle, on 32mm bases even?

Do you have a vehicle which carries 40 guardsman? If so, it's probably large enough that 3" will get you done.

Going off the dimensions of the Stormlord and a bit of math, you should be able to fit 40 Guardsmen around a Stormlord when disembarking. But don't forget that after you disembark, you may move the unit for however far it moves, so it won't be a problem any way, unless you plan to give the Stormlord a Guardsmen bubblewrapping... which I think is the opposite of how a stormlord is meant to be used

Thanks guys ...I should have also stated, that I'm mostly concerned with normal sized games of 40k - whereas the Stormlord would only make an Apoc list for me hah, but it's good to know.

I'm eventually going to try out a Guard list where most, if not all of my army's infantry is hiding inside of a Stormlord.

Shooting is measured by base to base, so I guess with a large group of guard, that extra base space does add up in pushing them forward a little more.

Harder time avoiding enemy simply assaulting multiple units at once as your army is forced to be one big clump rather than good layered defence.
