Hi! So, today I was feeling sick and my guts weren't doing well so I started tallying up what I have for my Space Marines (still working on my small SW army, and need to go through my Deathwatch soon) and this is what I got. I have almost everything for this list, so I think it's a great target for my first 2000 points. I have quite a few HQs, lots of elites, not so many troops, very few fast attack, and very little heavy support. I'm hoping to get advice not just on what I'm using for this list, but for how to add to this army over time. Like what other 2000 point builds should I aim for? Also, I don't know much about battalions or anything, so I'm hoping this works.

( 1995 ) 2000 Points

( 145 ) Captain in terminator armour - relic blade, storm bolter

( 178 ) 10 Tactical Squad - grav cannon/amp, plasma gun, sarg - plasma pistol
( 74 ) Rhino - 2 storm bolters

( 178 ) 10 Tactical Squad - grav cannon/amp, plasma gun, sarg - plasma pistol
( 74 ) Rhino - 2 storm bolters

( 178 ) 10 Tactical Squad - grav cannon/amp, plasma gun, sarg - plasma pistol
( 74 ) Rhino - 2 storm bolters

( 178 ) 10 Tactical Squad - grav cannon/amp, plasma gun, sarg - plasma pistol
( 74 ) Rhino - 2 storm bolters

( 276 ) 3 Assault Centurions - hurricane bolters, 6 flamers
( 341 ) Landraider Redeemer - twin assault cannon, 2 flamestorm cannons, storm bolter

( 225 ) 3 Primaris Inceptors - 6 assault bolters

Hoping I got all the points correct. This new paying for everything thing sometimes screws me up. Everything is mounted in something, Cents and Captain in the redeemer, tacticals in rhinos, and the primaris are deep striking. I'm hoping I won't run into a lot that can kill all my transports in one turn. I also think that I may have a hard time with hordes, because other than the Cents and storm bolters, I have the inceptors and that's pretty much it. That said, the Cents can get up to 36 auto hit flamer attacks on top of the 36 hurricane bolter shots. With the captain near by, they will re-roll ones, so hoping for a good show. Another thing to worry about is flying tanks. Not a lot of anti air in here.

One possibility is to add a devastator squad with 4 lascannons and a razorback with twin assault cannon, but I'd have to lose 8 points. Maybe a plasma pistol? extra storm bolters on the rhinos and redeemer? I could also go with a Stormtalon with 2 lascannons and twin assault cannon and use that to take on fliers. But what would I do with the other 57 points? A minimum group of scouts?

From here, what should I look to adding? On my list are a predator, a storm raven, the redeemer, a few tac+rhino boxes, dev box, and a stalker. I would like to be able to do many things with my armies, so I'll take all suggestions and keep an open mind about what I could use. Thanks in advance!

If you're looking for power that Stormraven will be the biggest boost. Airborne flyers are very good.

for the stormraven is it better to go all anti tank weapons? It looks like it can do a lot of wounds in one round of shooting with anti tank stuff, but I'm not sure if specialising it like that is the way to go. I guess magnetising it would be the way to go, but I'm not sure how exactly to use it.

Here are my quick takes...

1.) With all the new detachments, I see very little reason to take tac squads unless you REALLY want that one plasma gun. You can take the exact same models and loadout (minus the plasma gun) with a Devastator squad. Also, for five more points, you get the Cherub. So one model fires with a +1 BS from the Signum and can double fire for a round. If you want to pay a few more points, you can even add another Grav Cannon to the squad instead of the plasma gun.

2.). Assault Centurions aren't at all the great for their point cost. If you factor in the Land Raider, it even makes it worse. Their theoretical damage sounds great on paper. But in practice, I think you will find them underwhelming. It is too easy to screen the Land Raider, putting you far away from targets. I don't think they are even all that good as an assault unit. Even if they do get into combat, I doubt they are seeing more than one. They move too slow and can be easily avoided. I played a list with a Knight in it and I found it pretty straightforward to avoid it and they have three times the movement of an assault squad. Lastly, most of the work for this glob will probably come from the Land Raider by itself.

3.) As far as new models, the Storm Raven is terrific for its point cost. It has a ton of firepower. It is highly mobile and is a great transport as well. PoTMS and Hard to Hit just make it that much better. I found my TriLas Predator to be pretty good. Not an All-Star but not wasted points either. I still want to try out the Dakka version. Devastators are really good in my opinion. My next trial will be to mix in a bunch of Ancients and Apothecaries with a bunch of Dev Squads.
