Well... since my death cultists and crusaders can no longer ride along in my land raider crusader (which is what you got it for...), what unit do you all think is the best unit to be delivered by the land raider crusader?

Deathwing Knights. Seriously, these guys bring the pain in CC and can be difficult to shift with their 2+/3++ and 2 wounds. Those guys are probably the reason to play Dark Angels in 8th.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.

If you're using regular Marines, Assault Centurions seem like a fine bet. If I'm not mistaken, you can fit five and a character inside a Crusader which is nifty.

If you're not teleporting them in, DW Knights definitely bring the business.

I think the Assault Centurions are just tooooo slow. In 7th it is Ok since you can Disembark after the LR have moved up to 6 inches, But now you must disembark before the vehicle moved. So any experienced opponent can have their units run the hell out of there.

In my opinion the best unit to put into Land Raider is the Wuflen. They have a relatively reasonable movement value, can advance and charge the same turn and can reroll the charge distance. So once the LR have driven into the enemy Battlelines, they will have a hard time to avoid being charged next turn.

Assault Centurions are great in the LRC because with a standard squad of three you can still fit a five man sternguard squad and two characters in power armour to support them. Using other units (rhinos, etc) to box your opponent into a corner and then sending in the wrecking ball will help them find their target.

Yes but they get a 3" disembark move followed by the their regular 4" move and then a 2D6" charge so a 9 - 19" threat range with an average of 14" which isn't too shabby IMHO.

I don't have a great answer but the fact you can party bus a land raider with multiple units creates some cool combos. A LRC has 16 slots so you can pack 3 assault centurions, a chaplain, and 6 honor guard for a freight train of beat face.

I think that for your specific Land raider assault centurions or TH/SS termies might be best. Maybe cataphractii with lightning claws and a beatstick character.

In general I think that the Custodes Land raider full of Custodians might be the best option. The LR itself costs only 2 points more than a standard one (though for some reason its heavy bolter is 6 points more expensive - the LCs are the same). For that you get BS2+, a 5++ (which you'll rarely use, thanks to the 2+ armour save) and a 6+ FNP.

But the main thing is the custodians themselves. There's nothing that wants to meet 5 angry custodes. Having S5 and T5, and hitting on 2+, is a huge advantage. They are tougher than centurions (especially if given storm shields) for far fewer points. And while they may not get such high strength, they will hit so much more often that wounding on 5s (at worst) isn't too big a problem.

Deathwing Knights are working really well for me. Wulfen are terrifying.

But on a budget, I think a chaplain along with Company Veterans with two Chainswords each and maybe thunder hammers for sergeants. Characters that grant additional attacks are also a bonus.
