so i was wondering how cheap can you go without having an airbrush that just wont work for painting minis? Saw the one below at walmart the other day and almost snatched it up. good idea bad idea? Mediocre idea? Don't really want to spend more than 100 on the whole system combined if it can be avoided.

Looks like it would work, though there's no obvious moisture trap and almost certainly no tank.

Moisture trap is a must-have, tank is almost-must-have.

That said, you could basecoat things very quickly and easily even with just that kit.

Even the cheapest air brushes are fine. You want a compressor with a tank though.

This Is Where the Fish Lives

That airbrush is "meh" at best and that compressor is just about useless.

If you want a decent airbrushing experience, you'll likely need to spend more that $100.

I bought something similar to that, it should arrive in a few days. I wish I had the option of getting something better, but I just don't. I've seen complete hobby airbrush sets with instructions, airbrush, compresor and paints go for 100 dollars. Where I live the compresor alone is at least 120. Still, I'm happy even if it's just for basecoating, it saves a lot of time and gives me the option of painting colours like yellow.

It'll probably "work", but that compressor is very weedy, auto stop at 25PSI and auto on at 15PSI is going to struggle and without proper pressure adjustment it'll be hard to fine tune the airbrush flow.
