So Im going to start up a Thousands sons army. But after painting the first 10 Rubric marines I have come to the conclusion that I will never have the patience to paint 1000 rubric marines, so 20 will have to do.

The list I want to try is:
Ahriman on Disc

Sorcerer; (thanks to GW:s new price hike of the Exalted sorcerer )
Force stave

Demonprince with wings;
Malefic Talons*2

9 Rubric marines, 1 Aspiring sorcerer;
8 Inferno boltguns
1 Soulreaper autocanon
1 Force stave, Warpflame pistol


4 Rubric marines, 1 Aspiring sorcerer;
2 Inferno boltguns
2 Warpflamer
1 Force stave, Warpflame pistol


4 Rubric marines, 1 Aspiring sorcerer;
2 Inferno boltguns
2 Warpflamer

You wan tto fork over for the Exalted. As you get three exalted sorcerers in the kit, one's on a disc and you can then convert a few more CSMs to Tzeentchy sorcerers so you have to buy less rubric kits. Also, you don't have to fork extra points out for the stinkin (Vanilla) sorcerer, and save the spare points for another warp flamer(pistol).

Other then that, I might suggest ditching the rhinos, and grabbing Soulreaper Cannons on your Rubrics(Making them 10 man squads). Most battles are fought between 12 and 24" so more bodies in a resilient unit like rubrics that pump out -2 Ap shots, should be fine.

I am not impressed yet by the Warpflamer but YMMV, and I really hope that the Vindicator does you some good. A predator might do well in that list, especially, if you don't have the rhinos.


Tzaangors, will make for prime shooting targets, and them walking will suck... If there is anything that needs transports this edition, its melee infantry. Might I suggest, more shooty or more (mobile) melee to support that DP. If you plan on dropping the Tzaangors in the rhinos, swap the Rubrics to a 10 man, drop in a soul reaper cannon and lose the warp flamers. These are all observations from my own Tsons games, namely with rubrics in gift crates that the enemies exploded, wrecked or otherwise made into Swiss

(Also, if you think those Rubrics are bad, I'm doing three heldrakes, and 40 rubrics for my total collection. In Tson Gold/Yellow and Blue. But they are sweet looking models.)

I rarely bring 20 rubrics because they're still quite expensive. I run 15 at most (either 5 and 5 or 5 and 10). I realise that this doesn't help as you'd still have to buy 20, but maybe you can get 5 from somebody else.

Vindicators are not that great in 1k sons lists because they're overshadowed by a predator with lascannons.

Other than that I might add some spawn. They're great for screening daemon princes (if you cast warp speed on them).

To summarize: I'd drop one squad of 5 rubric and the Vindicator and replace them with a tri-las predator and a unit of 2 spawn.

You don't have to be happy when you lose, just don't make winning the condition of your happiness.

What are you going up against? Because you lack good ranged weaponry, you're going to need to get up and close, or hopefully it's a small table or lots of cover.

So our group had our first run at 8th last weekend. I really liked Thousands sons even though I lost both matches I played with them (damn filthy Imperial guard, so many bodies). But our conclusion from the games were that S4 small arms fire is the way to go and that smite is all the can opener you are going to need. So next game I´m going to try a new direction:

The list is really slow, but I will try and focus on placing objectives in the middle of the board and just walk up. Dakka and smiting everything that comes close. Everything in the list have a 5+ invo save re-rolling 1:s (exept Oblitirators, since they can´t be Thousand sons). And the Exalted sorcerors are no pushovers in CC
