I have made my first few 8th ed lists. The datasheets for the aspect squads say an exarch may take the place of one warrior.

In the back of the Codex Index with the points, I can't see a separate cost for them. So I think they are the same as a standard aspect warrior. So you get a model with an extra wound and some extra rules for free. Is this correct?

So I think I am going to use my Dire Avenger exarch with his magnetised Diresword for the the first time.

(Crimson Hunter is different. They have a special different datasheet).

Yes. With the exception of Wolf Guard Pack Leaders in Terminator Armourâ„¢ all unit sergeants in 8th edition are a free upgrade and there is zero reason to ever not take them outside of edge cases like Lootas and Burnaz.

Correct. An exarch is a free upgrade for the unit.

Yup yup. Exarchs basically cost the same as the regular dudes (except for the Shadow Spectre Exarch).

Is that a FW unit? I am not seeing it in the index.

Yes.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

The other beautiful thing about this is that some Exarchs' special gear doesn't actually cost that much more Aspects standard wargear
Fire Dragons, for example pay for their fusion gun, but if their Exarch wants the Dragon's Breathe flamer, it costs the same price. So they do not buy the fusion gun and the unit costs the same as is you took 5 regular Dragons.
Best part about that scenario is that the Exarch can still use a Melta bomb if you really need it and somehow mange to get close enough to use it (stupid 4" FAQ)
Same goes for the Shining Spear Exarchs Star lance. It is only 3pts more than a regular lance

I really like this change as it allows players to use their special models with their intended wargear without feeling hampered competitively.

If you find you don't have enough points. The Dark Reaper Exarch can take a 12 point shuriken Cannon. Much cheaper than the 31 point Reaper Launcher. If you need to shave 19 points off perhaps. fyi
