I've had 2 g23, they can take a beating and they're easy to get parts for or just replace, cuz they're cheap.

Thanks i'll have to look into that one. Called around to my local stores and none actually had any of these models. Hobby town had a good selection ranging from a 15 dollar brush up to infinity. I'm trying not to spend more than 100. they did suggest getting a decent brush and cans of compressed air. which i realize might be a gakky idea, but it might just hold over until i can get a separate compressor. Thoughts on using cans of compressed air as propellant? anyone done this? exactly show gakky an idea is this?

Amazon dude.

Propellent cans are terrible and inconsistent. You're better off putting a regulator on a car tire tube, but really you're best just caving for a compressor.

Ended up going with the G23 with the C28 compressor. Here's hoping i don't regret it. also ordered off amazon. walmart did not have in store pick up so......

Can't speak to that compressor but I'm sure you'll do fine with this setup. Those little compressors without tanks, typically burn out quick especially if they have no auto-shut-off feature - but heck it's so cheap and at least you'll have a consistent airflow.

The whole set was. Cheaper then the compressor by itself worst case I need a new airbrush

Keep an eye out at your local freight tool store. Pick up a cheap air compressor. It will have a tank and regulator which are critical. Heck, you can even air up the tires, blow out your garage, hook up a pneumatic tool (nail gun, etc.) and fix your house.

You should be able to pick up the proper size connection and just use a quick release set-up with a moisture trap in the line and you are all set. Sure, they might be a bit loud, but once they charge up, the 20 psi you shoot can go quite a long time before the compressor kicks in.

I have used a 1 1/2 gallon tool compressor for my airbrushes for years - best way to go. I had an excellent Badger Silent I, but it was expensive and so heavy to lug around, I sold it and have never looked back since.

I got canned air with my first airbrush. Was frustrating for learning with, since I had very limited air to figure out what I was doing with it. Ran out of air in the middle of a task. So so much better even with the cheap tankless compressor I have now.

hopefully the C28 at least is decent. if the G23 works as stated all the more better. mostly just going to use it to airbrush power weapons and spray on candy blue over silver for my ultramarines.also candy red for my buddy's khorne berzerkers i'm getting him.

I have a bunch of airbrushes at this point, and I'll probably keep trying new/different ones, but I always come back to my G23.

Not because it's any better, but because it can take some abuse and I also don't feel bad just doing lazy/quick cleaning with it haha. It does the job though.

I mean isn't that all you can ask? What's the point of these $200 airbrushes then?

Well my H&S for example can run at really low psi and can do very fine detail, my Neo pistol-grip is just soo much more comfortable when doing long (like priming or basing) jobs...

But yeah for most stuff you're going to do with the airbrush, the g23 will get it done.

Always thin... even with Air paints. Mostly people never thin enough but the airbrush can so easily handle ultra-dilute mixtures. No matter what I'm spraying it's always mostly thinner, and some paint.

Yes you can airbrush without thinning for certain paints - but still thin.

Yeah I think I've learned that lesson. I have x-20 coming for my tamiya. Not going to use water for the other paints, I'll wait till I can get to the hobby store for some airbrush valejo specific thinner

Do so searches on airbrushing and thinning paints - there are literally hundreds of posts on this topic.

(in fact, thinning is being discussed in another active thread right now).

I suggest using air brush medium - it is amazing.
I have thinned using a variety of products (windex, alcohol, acrylic thinner, water, etc.) and actual air brush medium is amazing.

I suggest the golden brand, but any good quality will do.

Again, please use the search for more info - this topic literally comes up every few weeks.

best of luck and have fun!

As you say it has been discussed to death here... but I'll second using a proper airbrush medium. You can find some other, possibly cheaper, household item whatever that will work - but really just use the darn product intended for the darn job yah know? ...Golden AB medium is excellent, I only favor Liquitex AB medium because it's slightly cheaper.
