I did not watch the tutorials, but if they did not mention it, always bring your brushes back to a nice tip after cleaning. While not exactly healthy, a quick pull through your mouth brings the brush to a nice tip again and keeps everything in place until ready to use again. This greatly extends the life of your brushes
Also, a few other good habits:
- Never leave your brushes sitting in your water cup. It bends the bristles while soft and they are destroyed in quick order.
- Never soak a brush when it has wet paint on it. This forces paint up into the ferrule and will push the hairs apart and you will never get a good tip again. When ready to clean, dip in water and pull on a paper towel. The when most of the paint is off, dip and pull through your towel while squeezing the paper. Do this a couple of times until the brush is clean. Use a little soap or cleaner then bring to a nice point again.
- If it is really dirty with dry paint or you need to bring a brush back to life, soaking in a cleaner is great, but again, do not do this if your brush is full of wet paint.
