So one of the many dishes I put together on the 4th was a smoked pig head. Now that it's all stripped out and cleaned up, I'm planning on using a soldering iron or wood burner to put some patterns in it, wire it with the jaw open, and turn it into a spawn portal for Daemons. Reinforcements would spawn there, it could become an objective to take over, etc

But beyond the burning in of patterns, any ideas on how to Chaosify it? I'm thinking about placing clear blue marbles in the eye sockets and running red LED lights inside the brain case so the eyes glow a cool color, but I'm stumped on the rest.

An actual pig's head? That's some serious dedication to Khorne...

Burning patterns, maybe some spiky bits. You'd want it safe for a tabletop though.Whether or not organic bone would last ages either.

I want to see this happen!

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Love the idea! One idea, if you're really careful, is to imbead the patterns deep enough so that the skull becomes quite thin at that point, you could then put a red LED inside the skull and have it glow through thinned patterns in the skull. Would look really cool!

Hope to see this thing finished!

He he, I used a real wasp head for a Nurgle terminator once. Glad to hear of more real stuff being used in models. Try using cotton balls soaked in glue to simulate stringy muscle holding the jaws, or super glue over pva to create melded flesh effects. You could make the thing appear to be fused to the ground by chaos growth. Now you've got me wanting an animal skull to do this stuff with. I'd paint the whole thing, of course. Helps blend the real and the fake.

seems more like a nurgle thing

chuck that bad boy into a box full of beetles and it will take care of it self in a few days to a week.

how big is the thing?

Oh it's already cleaned up. I'm a chef and hunter, I had it bare hours after we ate. As soon as it is fully dry I was gonna start working on it. It's up in the rafters in the garage for now with some curly maple I've been storing.

It's about 8 or 9 inches long by the jawbone. When it gets wired open, it will be around 6 inches tall because of the angle. It's also already quite thin in some places but I could probably pit an extended on the dremel and sand down the inside to thin it even more. Red glowing bone with blue-purple glowing eyes sounds badass.

I'm just curious (because I honestly have no idea), is the bone marrow going to be an issue? I mean, is it going to rot or is is already cooked out? Do you have to boil it out, or it it cool? It does sound like an awesome idea though! I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures!

Even if you think you've gotten it clean, jam it in an ant bed for a week or two. They'll happily go through it and make sure every last bit is clean (and they prevent fungus!). That said, it'd make a hell of a terrain piece. I'd paint over it with a thin layer of whatever your favored blood-style paint is, and make it an altar. Sculpt an icon of Khorne and stick it nearby. Add a few tiny skulls off to the side. Done.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh, and if you haven't yet, go ahead and pull the skull apart, just to make sure everything on the inside gets cleaned out. Write a number on the parts with a marker so you can glue them back together.

Generally speaking, marrow is usually only contained in weight bearing bones, pelvises, and ribs. I should be fine on that front.

Also, as a side note, boiling is a relative term. Boiling bones makes them brittle when they dry, and mushy until then. Simmering for about an hour with a bit of enzyme soap gets the job done. From there it's the slow process of picking it apart before letting bugs do the hard work like our compatriot Munga suggested. Or you could just do that to start if you have the patience.

I'm working a lot of 12 hour shifts sandwiched with hour long commutes this week. I'll take some pictures when I actually make some progress beyond cleaning the skull and when I'm home during daylight hours.

On the upside, money.

Thanks man. Hopefully it can be soon. Might order the next size up of pig too. The jawbone was about 6.5" long, so it would have been limited to around the size of a chaos dread at the biggest for it to make sense for portal action.

Let's aim for Skarbrand access size. Maybe it was a blessing.

Perhaps the Blood God requires more blood to be spilt before a portal can be established...

That makes so much sense that I'm stealing that for when the roomie gets home and I tell him that his dog is a jerk.

Joke is on him though. I don't even play Chaos, I just wanted to make cool terrain.

Of all the "my dog ate it" excuses I've ever seen, this one has to be the absolute best.

Sorry that happened, though! This sounded like a really cool - if pretty damn unusual - idea, and I hope you put up some pics when you get a chance to try this again.

Oh it won't take long. I'm the charcuterist for a restaurant group in the Seattle area. We are partnered with a small pig farm. I'll probably have one before this time next week, and I can do it proper and just order some dermestid beetles.
