Who are the greatest beatsticks in 40K (you could just give us one or your top 5/10, whatever), to be clear we are looking for imperium characters who are the best at smashing face, this will be against all comers, survivability is a factor as is value for points.

So who are the best imperium characters for smashing face (and not necessarily boosting other units but boosting themselves of course helps) ?

I think Celestine might take the top prize, for her pretty reliable ability to charge on turn 1. She's not at all expensive for what she does. She can always move 24" a turn if she wants to, or if she finds herself locked down she can fight before the movement phase.

Several of the marine characters are good beatsticks. I'm not going to bother going through all of them, but Lysander is pretty awesome, with a S10 thunder hammer that hits on a 2+. He can teleport in for a decent chance of a 1st turn charge.

Pedro Kantor is an interesting option. He gives nearby units an extra attack, and the ability to reroll all misses. That's a pretty tasty combination to run with units like terminators or assault centurions. He isn't too shabby as a fighter himself either. He's kind of a cheaper Guilliman in terms of the buffs he hands out - though he's obviously nothing like such a good beatstick.

I'm painting my Primaris as Crimson Fists. If I can get hold of the birthday marine I think I'll try and make him into a counts-as Pedro.

Belial and Azrael of the Dark Angels are no slouches, although definitely not in a class with Roboute Guilliman. They give very nice buffs to nearby units and can wreck some face in close combat. Really you don't want to risk them that way though.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I've only had 3 games of 8th so far but I'm putting in another vote for Celestine. She is ludicrously fast and can put out a ton of Strength 7 AP-3 Damage 2 swings that hit on 2's. For durability she has a 2+/4++ and a practical minimum of 18 wounds that she can heal mid game. Her ability to swing twice in the SoB player's turn is brutal, and she has a halfway decent shooting attack too. So far for me she's taken down over 100 various orks, a warboss, Mephiston, 3 Terminators, 3 of the new jump pack Primaris Marines, and a Razorback, all without having to resurrect or really even taking any serious damage.

I think Cypher is pretty good. Though not a complete beat stick or demigod he has some neat tricks.

He can always fire his pistols even when advancing or falling back and they don't overheat. They, combined with his normal attacks, total 9 attacks while in 1 inch of enemy models and he rerolls 1's.

There is also a very good chance that you'll deny your opponent the "Slay the Warlord" point if you take him as the Warlord.
