I'm approaching the point of ending the alpha testing for Zero Dark and, when it moves to beta, I'd like to start illustrating the rules with images of my own collection and use fewer image ripped off from the Internet. So this kind of means actually getting around to painting the mish-mash of different manufacturers I've been using to playtest so far.

I started by re-painting this AT-43 Fire Toad mech, which is a perfect fit for the Red Force Defence Mech complication:

I have a bunch more AT-43 stuff I picked up in a trade who are going to form the core of my MERF (Martian Evacuation & Rescue Force) minis. They paint up OK, so far, but no more pics quite yet. Other than the Fire Toad, whose base is almost perfect at ~63mm, I'm switching the rest of the UNA onto 25mm bases.

Then I decided it was time to get some paint down on the two Maelstrom's Edge guys I've had sitting on my desk forever.

These guys aren't going to form part of the core setting for the game, which is about 200 years from now with colonists from Mars and Venus competing to control an Earth shattered by a massive asteroid impact, but will serve to illustrate how easily other miniatures lines and settings can be accommodated by the rules (if I get permission to feature them as such, obviously - a lot of this is assumption that the manufacturers will give it a nod; not that this is legally required [they're my minis, after all] but it is sort of polite!).

And today I got paint down on "Widow" from Hasslefree Miniatures. She looks nice in either a modern/near future setting or in the core setting, so she's modelling the MERF colours (Vallejo Russian Green btw).

I just adore this mini and hope I can add a few more Hasslefree pieces to the collection soon.

The Defence Mech doesn't turn up in every game, but it does seem to show up in most games, so it's fun to have a selection to choose from. I've had this mech from EMP Games hanging around for a while, waiting for paint, so this project seemed like an ideal opportunity to get it finished. That's actually a 40mm base, when the rules call for a 60mm, so he could also double as a synthetic Heavy Elite or hero, too, although he's a bit on the tall side.

I know it can be hard to judge the size of something you've not seen before, and this is a very new release from EMP Games - I was lucky enough to get a preview copy - so you're unlikely to have seen this before. So here's a scale reference shot:

That guy has a great "Haters gonna Hate" style of pose.

I look forward to seeing these guys in some batreps.

Still working on bat reps. I tried to make one the other week, but my bloody overpriced GoPro seems to think that my state-of-the-art laptop doesn't have the processor speed to cope with its HD bull**** and I get choppy playback if I dare to record anything longer than 2 minutes of footage.

Anyway, enough griping. I've been painting more AT-43 stuff for the playtesting. These have also been re-based. I'm slightly converting the Therians to try to make them look more like conventional robot support units.

Beautiful collection of models. Really eclectic, and youve meshed the different manufacturers really well. I'm not familiar with the ruleset you're talking about - is it something you're creating? Skirmish rules that cover such a variety of sizes and frames are always fun.
