Interesting, I finally found my Directorate ships while unpacking some boxes. I haven't kept up with Firestorm (but their reputation is that Spartan doesn't either >.> )

I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for what they do next

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Anyone who is thinking of backing a Spartan game should go take a look at the Halo Fleet Battles forum from a few months ago to a few years ago to see where they'll be 6 months post launch. Spartan actively supports their games with haphazard poorly tested releases for 6 months then moves on to the next game of the demi-year. I thought they might act differently with a big licensed title like Halo but they dropped support for it like a hot potato about 8 months after release with no new figs for many months and a top down rules revision iirc in less than a year and a half. That's the shelf life you should expect from a Spartan game or expansion.

As someone that plays Halo Fleet battles I'd have to disagree, the spirit of fire was released in the last two weeks.

Yes releases have slowed down after the initial releases but stuff is still coming.

Spartan games has in the past been guilty of having to many games on the go for them to support properly but recently they have been listening to their customers, the Dystopian wars Kickstarter was as a result of that, and so is this one.

No real interest in the Firestorm kickstarter as I don't play the game. But might be a source of nice space scenery.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Yeah, after being let down by their support for Firestorm Planetfall, I'm pretty much off the Spartan stuff, even though I do like some of their models. May eventually buy a few here and there to use in other systems.

That's why I said a few months to a few years ago and not right now. They pretty much left the fruit of HFB to rot on the tree and fall off after less than a year. The official forums would go weeks without a new thread from customers and the company went months between any concrete news of new releases. They of course by then had already switched their focus to halo ground wars instead. It's not just regard halo that you hear that exact same complaint about spartan; I heard the complaints from Dystopian Wars and Firestorm players prior to HFB's release.

Don't forget Uncharted Seas. It was Spartan's first game that they forgot, rereleased, then decided to forget about again.

They also had their quicker-playing version of Firestorm Armada called Taskforce. They stopped supporting that game so fast I don't even remember if they even followed through on their initial promises.

They said they would release Taskforce rules for the main fleet boxes and post them online. Back when I was deciding between Taskforce or Star Wars Armada, people were clamoring for them on the Spartan forums, but complete radio silence.

Yeah, I play mostly GW but got some Firestorm Armada fleets because the fleet level battle and models appealed. I found Spartan Games to be well, haphazard is the kind way of putting it.
The free rules and great models are big pluses but do not expect much else from them, that way when they spring new models and what have you after months of nada its a pleasant surprise.

I've been prioritizing other games recently as FSA has not been receiving much love from Spartan.

However, I'll certainly take a closer look at the KS.

I'm sure Spartan didn't mean to ignore you and give its attention to other games and gamers. I'm sure this time will be different unlike the other times. Spartan might even bring you a card and box of chocolates to show just how sorry they are!

Then they'll ignore FSA players to relaunch Dystopian Wars in yet another scale.

Spartan is literally the most ADHD company around. They keep re-re-relaunching the same game, only to stop supporting them. Quite honestly, they refuse to learn and have refused to learn constantly for the last 10 years. Or worse yet, re-scaling the game repeatedly for no reason.

Interestingly, their later editions tend to get worse because the designers don't understand game design or mathematics. It rarely matters as it'll be replaced by another game in a year.

Nothing but distaste for Spartan and their products, after playing 4(!) of their games in the last 10 years, none of which are supported properly anymore or became unplayable. Not to mention all of them were the same damn ruleset in the end.

Go play Dropfleet if you want space battle instead of FSA. I've sold my old FSA fleets because the games just plain get dropped or don't work, even though FSA v2 was starting to go in the right direction.
