Not sure if this a YMDC thread or tactics so feel free to move Sir Mods.
This came up twice in a game tonight.

Apologies for the poor pic quality.
The first objective is the red dice under the GA.
Due to the bunker being played as impassable terrain and the GA dimensions it was impossible for the enemy to get within 3 inches hence the GA claimed it.

In this example the ruins were also played as impassable.
Again due to the monoliths dimensions it was not possible to get enemy models within 3 inches (obj is the white piece of paper) hence controlled at the end of the game,

Just to be clear there is no complaining here, it seems to be a really legit tactic and obviously playing the terrain as impassable made a difference but does anyone see any flaws or issues here that might have been missed?
If not, no worries and its off to the tactics forum

I actually routinely use this tactic with my Stormhammer company. The machines are large enough that if the objective is in the center underneath it, no enemy can get within 3" even in the open.

Lets me score against conscripts.

Off to tactics forum so

Do you think there was any around the impassable terrain?
What if the terrain was just a standard bunker/ruins?

I generally play all buildings as ruins.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Could a unit not charge the ghost ark/Monolith and get within 3" due to the base being smaller than the model?

The bunker not being impassable wouldn't have helped - you can't measure distance to an embarked unit.
The ruin not being impassable would have made a big difference - infantry could have gotten in there.

Very few models actually have a base with a 3" radius, or a hull with the same. But in such a situation, you could claim the objective without contest.

My tactical solution would be to kill the model, but in the event that you can't, yeah it gets the objective.

I'm seriously failing to see how the GA could prevent a unit from getting within 3", it's base is barely 3" in diameter.

Don't forget you can't be within an inch, so a 2" radius vehicle would deny.

And then there's parking a Baneblade on something... :-D
