Subject: When to use invulnerable save instead of normal save?

I'm sure I'm over complicating this, but I'm trying to understand which type of save is best used in which type of situation.
If I understand the rule correctly, an invulnerable save basically trades a higher save score for the ability to ignore the enemy AP value of their weapon.
So based on that, you'd want to use your normal save for anytime an enemy wound would apply a 0 AP modifier, or possibly -1 or -2 depending on the math. You'd want to use the invulnerable save when the higher save value for the invulnerable save is still better than the normal save after AP modifiers.
Is that correct? Am I missing anything else important or am I reading it wrong?

Yeah it's as simple as that, you just choose to use whichever is best in the given situation.

Thanks for the responses. I was definitely over-complicating it in my head.

A simple way to think about it is tha the "Invul Save" is a limit to how much your regular save can be modified.

Whichever is the lower number of the 2
For a Terminator, that will usually be his Armor save. However, strong penetrating shots might result in the Invuln being used.
For a Daemon, that will usually be his Invuln. However, a few extremely rare abilities might prevent the use of invuln.

You don't have to use whichever is lower. When making saves you can choose freely which save you will use. It is another question when you would want to use a worse save over a better one, but you are allowed to do so.

some abilities trigger when you pass one kind of save and not the other, so then you could take a gamble.
