so im looking for spheres, probably slightly smaller than a marble.
im thinking 1/4 inch or 10mm diameter and preferably engraved with an electronic circuit board looking pattern although bare would work.

any ideas to help me find some?

Craft stores tend to have plastic beads for making jewelry. They come in lots of different sizes. The ones I've seen usually have a hole in it to run string through it, but that can be filled.
