An Imperial Guard infantry squad is made up of 1 sergeant and 9 guardsman. Each Guardsman has a lasgun and frag grenades. Two Guardsman may form a Heavy Weapons Team and take a Heavy Weapon. When they do they form one model with 2 wounds. How many weapons do they have? Two Lasguns and a heavy, or one Lasgun and a Heavy? It doesn't say anything about them giving up any lasguns when they form the team. Lasguns are 0 pts, but you still have to "buy" them.

The Heavy Weapons Squad is made up of 3 Heavy Weapon Teams, which each have 1 Lasgun and frag grenades, and must take a Heavy Weapon. Clearly they have 1 Lasgun and 1 Heavy weapon.

Not that an extra lasgun is anything to be excited about.

RAW, on the Infantry squad datasheet it does not say that a Heavy Weapon team is armed with anything until you pick a weapon for it from the Heavy Weapons list. So the HWT would just have the heavy weapon you picked.

However, given that HWTs in a Heavy Weapons squad get to keep 1 lasgun (along with their heavy weapon choice) makes it quite likely that is what GW intended for them to also have when in an Infantry squad.

I will add this question to the FAQ submission thread.

It may also be worth comparing this against the GSC Neophyte Heavy Weapon Teams, they are intended to be the same (Ipresume) as the AM variant but their data sheet states that the give up their autoguns/lasguns entirely.

An extra lasgun suddenly becomes 4 shots in a squad using FRFSRF, so less useless than it could seem!

I would assume the HWT in an infantry team is equal to a HWT in a heavy weapon squad so imo the HWT has one lasgun and a heavy.

Similar question to OP's about the GSC Neophyte HWT, Does the HWT have 2 autopistols? They are only said to give up their autoguns so I'd assume this was the case. Obviously you couldn't fire the pistols and the heavy weapon in the same turn.
