Hello folks,

first of all excuse my bad english. I am a German native speaker always looking for a good game of 40k. So here's my first list for 8th edition. I play it in a friendly tournament in our men cave. Help is highly appreciated. If you have any suggestions please let me know it since, however I haven't really played since 4th edition.

Regards,
iKorbinian

Should be a very flexible force. But you may suffer a penalty when shooting your plasma cannons if your squads are on the move. I guess you could rush into position turn 1 to hold objectives, then stay there, and shoot away. The only area I see lacking is a dedicated close combat unit.

You definitely are right about a lack of melee combat forces. Actually my tactics are standing and shooting. The Assassin is the player killer in the team.

The Tanks should absorb plenty of incoming firepower to (hopefully) take the heat off of your Tacticals. Id consider swaping those plasma cannons out for either more lascannons (just preference), or crucially something that can be fired on the move. see also: Plasma gun.

Marines aren't combat units. our best hand to hand units are fairly mediocre compared to assault units of similar costs in other armies... I'd focus on spreading out for deep-strike area denial, and focus anything with teeth down as it comes towards you. Wouldn't worry too much.

Do you really need a battalion? at 1k pts I can't help but feel a captain running around with a chainsword is an easy warlord kill? though his BS buff bubble might improve the efficiency of those special/heavy weapons, I guess.
Of course the only difference between your tactical squads at the minute and Devastator squads is a Signum to make your BS 2+ this would be a re-rollable 2+ in the captain's bubble?
Thus; If you're willing to sacrifice the 3 command points (2 of which you would have only spent on re-rolling 1's and 2's, the 3rd lost to the auxiliary assassin) your list fits into the spearhead detatchment, which grants a single command point, then lost to the auxiliary assassin.
Ultimately, this shift will increase the efficiency of your list massively... as far as I can tell, on paper.

good luck,
GamerGuy

First, the Razorbacks are only 102 pts. That gives you 12 pts. back. Remove one Tactical Squad, thats 98 pts., remove the Storm Bolters from two Razorbacks, that 102 pts. left. Now add an Assault Squad with three Plasma Pistols, thats 101 pts. They give you Deepstrike Ability. They can move 12". They have 2 Attacks each, the Sergeant has 3 Attacks in Melee. They can shoot their Pistols in Melee, they can fallback during Melee, and still shoot. Also i would remove one Marine from one Tactical Squad and put the Captain there, for better Protection, unless you want to use his 1 reroll Ability.

Thank you for your reply. It seems like I made some mistakes on my list. Do you have any optimized list for that point costs?

I have plenty old models and tanks, which can be used. Unfortunately I don't have any flyers yet since there weren't out back then. On the other hand spending a dime doesn't matter too much right now. Getting back into something is always spending.

Actually you don't loose a command point as mentioned before for the assassin, because you don't need to take him as an auxilliary detachment. Since he shares the Imperium keyword you can field him in a normal elite slot of your choosen detachment, be it brigade or spearhead.

First, your English is actually much better than you implied. I was expecting google translator to spit out gibberish but was pleasantly surprised haha.

This is almost exactly how I used to run marines before i switched over to bikes only. My advice would be stick to the shooting dedicated, as melee is tough for Marines especially in low points like this. You'll lose the buffer, but if you swap the Captain for a Techmarine as your hq, that will save you some points and give you room to add combi plasma for your tactical sgts. That way your ranged firepower has more to offer. Plus that can help keep your vehicles around longer.

Thank you all for your kind reviews and tips. Todays game was a win for me. The other player came along with to heavy Gorkanauts. I brought him down with my laser cannons. It was quite fun for me but embarrassing to him. Both of us agreed on a re-match next week. Until then, I will come up with a new list. So far:

Spoiler:
Speartip Detachment
+1CP, total 4CP

HQ

1.) Captain (74pts)
2.) Sergeant Chronos (58pts)

Heavy Support

1.) Devastator Squad (90pts)
- 3 Marines
- 1 Sergeant
- 1 Marine w/Laser cannon 25 pts
- Armorium Cherub

2.) Devastator Squad (90pts)
- 3 Marines
- 1 Sergeant
- 1 Marine w/Laser cannon 25 pts
- Armorium Cherub

3.) Devastator Squad (90pts)
- 3 Marines
- 1 Sergeant
- 1 Marine w/Laser cannon 25 pts
- Armorium Cherub

4.) Predator (202pts)
- 4 Laser cannons

Elite

1.) Vindicare Assassin (90 pts)

Assault

1.) Assault Squad (94pts)
- 1 Marines (16)
- Sergeant w/Pasmapistol (39pts)
- 2 Marine w/Pasma pistol (46pts)

Dedicated Transport

1.) Razorback (100 pts) Twin assault cannon
2.) Razorback (100 pts) Twin assault cannon

Total: 995pts

works quite well.

Thanks to all of you, especially in PM.

Yours,

Korbinian
