On the back of a hog.

Can't seem to beat my buddies "new hotness" Raven list. Either 5-6 and Dante or 4 and Guilliman.

Tried big guns, mek guns, tank bustas, storm boyz, etc.

Rest of my army is the usual few Boy Squads. But with all that firepower he's killing almost 100 Boyz a turn...

What's an Ork to do?

Play maelstorm and score points. You can win if your mission rolls are good enough. No other way really. You can't exactly 'deal' with flier spam as orks. Only ignore them, score and hope the game ends before a wipe.

Or if its just not fun to play against you could just not play against it.

They will probably limit/penalize the flyers detachment, which doesn't make sense at all since you can bring 2 flyers in any other detachment.

Since you play with a friend and 40 is still a game, talk to your opponent about the issue and change that list. There's no fun in playing with and against 4+ stormravens.

Spite spam can kill them however good players will not give you the opportunity to shoot them. But ya orks can't deal with flyers well.

Also play the new ITC or nova mission packs. The brb FAQs have never been balanced.

Would on "Orkified" Fire Storm Redoubt
be a usefull anti-air choice?
300ish points for 8 lascannons

the model would look good converted onto a giant
turtle-like "Pond Squig"!

(still immobile, but Ork-mobile for deployment between battles)

Drop in a ton of Kommando units with jump packs via D/S.

Charge the Ravens.

Yeah sure they can disengage on their turns, but then they cant shoot.

Just tie them up like this each turn.

I was thinking of Stormboyz.

And Ravens can shoot after falling back as they have the Fly keyword in any event.

Damn.

Scratch that.

Well, since Da Jump is soo popular, lets try something crazy like forcing it to hover;

-A 6x4 board is roughly 3456 inches, assuming an ork boy will take up the square inch he is standing in and coherency will fill an inch around him, you would need 384 Ork Boyz to fill the board to maximum coherency.

-A Stormraven is a 3.543307 x 4.724409 inches oval, squaring it off for simple math it fits in 16.7 inches of space and he has six of them. So 100 inches of space (also.. I'm squaring the base so it's less than that).

-You can't jump within 9 inches of him, and to make it harder lets assume he deploys them off to one corner. This means a nine inch perimeter around two sides of a 4.724409x21.2598 rectangle. Once again, I've squared the oval bases on the fliers, but it looks to be about 415.29 inches we can't put boyz in. This means our table space left to fill is 3040.70 inches. If each boy takes up a nine inch square then we would need 337 boyz to absorb every inch of available table space outside his deployment with Da Jump.

The next difficult part for me to begin to math is this, we don't actually have to make every inch of table disappear we just need to make it so that in his movement phase he can't stuff his 3.5x4.7 inch oval base down anywhere outside 20 inches, forcing him to hover. However we can't break coherency of individual units so you would jump into lines that are a little less than 6.7 inches apart to prevent the length of the Storm Raven from ever being able to plunk down.

With that in mind, the easiest way to make a theory for it (other than just go get your models and try it on a table) is make lines of orkz on the table 6.5 inches apart. This means each ork boy would be responsible for the inch he stands in, the inch in front and behind him, and 3.25 inches to his left and right. In this scenario I believe each ork boy takes up 19.5 inches, meaning our 3040.70 inch space we need to fill now only needs about 155.933 boyz (you may actually need more because it might be possible for the oval base to go diagonally with 6.5 inches in between rows of boyz).

As useless as the math is, because I'm no mathmatician and it's inaccurate, it's worth a thought to consider forcing him to hover in front of boyz because he has nowhere to put his Stormravens. Then hopefully you can actually do something to it, (lots of Str 4 attacks wounding on 5 sounds like my first thought). I didn't consider at all the Stormravens maximum limit of movement we actually have to worry about. But filling the table to force a hover move might be the type of thing a Weirdboy's Horde of Orkz might try. (until he blasts the lines away with all that shiny dakka, but hey Morkin about is morkin about.)

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

It is a good strategy the only downside is the one you mentioned at the end. Even if he does have to go into hover mode on his 1st turn he can easily blast away entire mobz of boyz on his turn with all that dakka and then it becomes a lot easier for him to maneuver, and every subsequent turn its going to get easier and easier for him to maneuver, so basically its an all or nothing thing and really only works as an alpha strike. If he gets first turn he could decimate mobz before they even get a chance.
