Hello,

I have trouble deciding on a new army.

In general i like having big-ass models with lots of wounds (like beastclaw raiders in AoS) - BUT i also like to have the option of going infantry-heavy and drown my opponent in bodies.

The reason i say this, is because i like having the option to do both, but not together. What i mean is that either i play with a few big tough guys, or with lots of small infantry units.

So far i have the following on my list of armies i think looks cool, along with the biggest minus as to why i HAVEN'T picked them up yet:

- Tyranids, like the look of them, but a friend plays them as a main army.
- Astra Militarum, like those but afraid they might get booring to paint.
- Orks, i wanna love them, but not too sure if i am all that into the whole "looks like a garbage can" - love their lore though!
- Primaris Space marines - they are new, they are shiny. ^^

Any suggestions are most welcome.
thanks

Hmm, do you want tanks or monster looking things?

Tau do a mean monster army, and their troops are cheap. Guard tanks are pretty solid, nids are obviously the monster experts as you mention but if you're avoiding them I'd probably say Tau are your best bet. Or chaos marines with the daemon engines.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Tyranids does sound like the army for you.

How many opponents would you regularly have, beside your tyranid friend and what sort of army does this friend play? Because if you play a different type of tyranid army, it could still make for an interesting game and if you have other regular opponents then having the same army won't matter too much.

Have you considered accepting the Teachings of our Blessed Star Father?

While Tyranids and Astra Militarum should be the best candidates, given your objections you could consider Genestealer Cults.

They have the numbers, they can drown the enemy in bodies and they can put together armored lists including even AM superheavies like Baneblade.

They are also immune to your friend's Shadow in the Warp
